  1. Not on time, no upfront pricing and over priced.

When I booked the appointment I was given a 2 hour window for the truck to show up. The truck showed up 45 minutes outside of the expected time window.

My 'junk' consisted of 2 queen size box springs, 1 queen size mattress, 1 small couch and 1 small tube TV. Everything was in the garage except for the couch which was in the basement.

The pricing model presented didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. There were various amounts depending on the space needed in the truck along with added sur charges for various items. I was told that an exact amount couldn't be determined until the truck was loaded which was not what I was told when I made the appointment.

Anyway, considering the few items I had and the 5-10 minutes they took to be loaded onto the truck I figured it couldn't be more than $200-3OO dollars so I told them to go ahead and load it up.

Boy was that a mistake. My bill came to $477.78. Outrageous amount for what they took and how long it took them. Never again.

  2. Remodel

Professional, careful, on-time,friendly and accommodating in every way! Thank you Tyler, Jeff, Steven and Gabe.

  3. Nice, easy, and efficient.

Called and setup an appointment. Was told they would give an estimate once they saw everything. Arrived on time, and walked me through the process. Gave an estimate. They loaded up all the junk (couch, chair, 3 old doors, construction waste, an old chimney, etc ). Their estimate was right on. Here and gone in 30 minutes. Couldnt have been any easier, plus they were less expensive then we figured.

  4. Beware of pricing model

Unless you plan to partner with others to fill an entire truck, they have a pricing model that overcharges for small loads. Full truck in DC was supposedly $700. Half a truck cost me $550 plus tax. The math works out foe them min making $1100 (+57%) on the truck load. Saying they give the price upfront is disingenuous when you are staring at a pile of crap you want removed. Service was fine. I just dislike the pricing scheme.

  5. Poor Service and Too Pricey

These Men Were Very Rude to me and told me it costs over $500 to move my 3 items, they also appeared to be unintelligent, when I asked questions they were not really able to answer my question, since they aren't very bright. They refused to give me price over the phone so I had to have them come in person and in Person they wouldn't give me total price for one item, and They weren't willing to negotiate with me period, wish I had never called this lousy company. This company only cares about themselves and they are only looking out for themselves. I am an attractive female who can walk outside and ask a man to move something without having to pay $500.

  6. 1-800-got junk.

They might be OK if you don't encounter a problem. If you do, you, as often happens, they are awful. Customer service doesn't return calls; ditto their franchisee. And when you finally get someone to talk to, they lie--again and again. Any mistake was a "miscommunication" between their call center and the franchisee. When I booked the removal of items from my late brother's apartment, I listed everything to be taken. When the truck arrived it was 2/3 full necessitating a second call and additional expenses for us plus being a major inconvenience.

An agent at their call center told us we'd get 20% off on the second bill, but never put that in an email as I requested, saying his email wasn't working! Then their higher-ups said the 20% was never "promised." Lie after lie after lie. This is not a reputable company to deal with. DO NOT USE.

  7. Don't bother negotiating price on phone.

I regret using 1-800-Got-Junk for two reasons.

    1) I got a call from the area manager (I forget his name, but the number was 913-226-7815) and we negotiated my price down to $70. Well, he didn't write it in his notes and so there was no record of that price. I was disappointed that the area manager would personally call me then turn around and go back on what we negotiated. Plus, they showed up after I had received my other item so I already got the couch out onto the porch for them. I reluctantly paid the price because I was going on 3 hours of sleep, but I regret that.

    2) The two gentlemen that showed up to pick up the couch were professional, walked me through the process, and overall seemed like nice guys. However, they left two large scratches in my porch that I didn't noticed until after they had left. It wasn't a heavy couch, my sister and I were able to lift it no problems.

If you have a single item to remove, don't go with this business. If you talk with someone and negotiate the price, make sure to they write it down and get the name.

  8. Please be careful..RIP OFF!

I had a sectional couch and a couple of drawers and a little scrap that needed to be thrown away. 1800junk can out, quoted me a price of $745 to remove all my junk. I had to remove the couch and drawer myself due to they could not come inside the house. I told them I refuse to pay $700 for this little bit of stuff that will not fill up half of their truck. The workers walked away and discussed what kinda deal they can work out for me. Long story short I did not take the so call discounted price they offer me, so they left. The funny thing is I called another company and they came and took all my items with a smaller truck. There truck already had items in it and they manage to fit my items in it at a cost of $298.00. Please be careful with 1800junk because I believe they are ripping people off thinking people are desperate to remove their Junk.

  9. Furniture removal.

I needed some furniture removed from my apartment. It wasn't a lot. It was a small couch, a king size and a queen size bed. On the phone, I was quoted a price for the items, when the crew arrived, the quote went up $270.00. The items didn't change, but their price did.

  10. Junk collection.

I made an appt around 11am. The junk

Guys came at 3:30. Brian and Kyle did an excellent job of gathering and hauling away our remodeling debris and some brush. I will call again when needed. Thank you, Gordon Blocker.

  11. Removing Trash.

I will never use this company ever again. I was told over the phone that the amount of trash I had would only cost me $150 the most I would pay is $200 to remove. The workers will determine how much depending on how much space it takes up in the truck. When they got to the house they told me it will cost $375 with tax to take everything. I was so mad at the number and not thinking I told them to take as much as $150 worth of space. They only took 8 light bags , leaving behind scraps of wood, rolled up pieces of carpet and 3 small draws from a cabinet. I'm still mad that I paid $166 for 8 bags this means if I need to remove the rest I would have to call them back. For the rest of the trash I'm going with a no name mom and pop company.

  12. 1800gotrippedoff.

I would not use 1800gotjunk unless you want to be ripped off! Better name 1800getrippedoff They quoted me a price of $475.00I had a large item I did not place on the truck, and other items that was a part of quote I removed and they still charged me the same. I question this and the guy Dan stated oh we missed calculated your rate tier. The truck they used was already 75% full. Poor service and bad pricing. They were actually complaining about the person who did the scheduling of the pickups. Had the nerve to think I would give them a tip. Here’s a tip for you, stop baiting and switching on.

  13. Very bad customer service.

I had a very bad experience with 1-800-Got-Junk. The movers themselves were good and professional, but the management is very poor. First, I scheduled my junk removal 3 days in advance and got the standard confirmation, which indicated that the time was reserved and I would get a call 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time. The manager for the Chicago region, who I believe was most of the problem, called me a day prior and asked me to confirm for the following day. I called back later and left him a voicemail indicating I was still on. His number did not have any voicemail message recorded indicating he was with the company.

The day of arrives and I wait and wait. Thirty minutes AFTER the scheduled time I called the main customer service line and asked what was going on. She called the Chicago area manager, who told her he would not be able to honor my appointment. I complained as I had scheduled my whole weekend around this appointment, so she "escalated" the call and put me on hold. Ten minutes later she told me I would be receiving a call from the manager who would tell me when the movers would arrive. He said they would be there near the end of the two hour appointment window.

It will come as no surprise that they did not show up and I had to call again. The customer service rep said I would be getting another call from the manager to explain why they were so late. At this point they were three hours late. I never heard from this manager again, but got a call from the movers telling me when they would be there.

They arrived, three and a half hours late. But that is not all, they arrived with a truck that was about 1/3 full. I gave a very detailed rundown of what I had in my appointment and it should have been clear that I had very near a whole truck of water damaged items. So they had to fill the truck, go dump it across town (which took 1.5 hours), then come back for 5 larger items. By the time they were done it was seven hours after my scheduled time. Had they arrived on time with an empty truck it would have taken about 30 minutes. No discount offered for my inconvenience and the total cost was $720.

Then after all was said and done, customer service contacted me via email and said that I would be receiving a call from the Chicago area manager to discuss the situation and all the failures, but I did not receive that call and informed this customer experience team three times that I have not received a call.

Overall, just a very disorganized and careless group of people. The movers themselves were great, but everyone else involved just doesn't care about the customer. I went with them because I thought they would be more reliable than cheaper options available in Chicago, but I was wrong.

  14. More Like 1-800-Big-Joke.

I had to move my parents into senior living and after getting everything they wanted from the house, letting my siblings scavenger hunt for finds, taking a few things for myself and holding a massive estate sale, there was still a lot of junk left. Big furniture, little stuff etc. I bagged up all the clothing and things I could and carted it off for donation at the Goodwill. At some point I'd had enough. I just wanted the rest gone, so I called 1-800-Got-Junk. The lady on the phone was pleasant, explained the process thoroughly and I decided to give it a try. I booked a window of 12 noon to 2pm for Monday June 10th. This is when the joke begins. On the phone I was told the items would be taken to charity, the team on the truck said it was all going to the dump, and they handled it as such. They destroyed some very nice furniture that someone could have used. To me, it was junk, but why tell me you donate stuff when you know full well you're going to destroy it and take it straight to the dump? The next thing I noticed was the truck is quite small. Smaller than I expected. They weren't able to load all the stuff I needed hauled away. I filled the truck, which by the way cost me $700.00. I had been warned that a full truck would cost $700, but I wasn't told the truck was'nt much bigger than a Volkswagon. If you have junk to get rid of, rent a 26 ft. straight truck from U-Haul for $150 and pay a buddy $200 to help you for a couple hours and you'll cut your price in half. Not to mention you can delivery your stuff to the Goodwill or Salvation Army. Wan't more? The guys didn't cover their boots and tracked grease and oil from their work boots all through the carpet. I had to pay $150 to have the carpet cleaned when they were done. The team leader offered me $50 off for my troubles. I told him no and filed a complaint. I was told I'd get a call within two days. I just got off the phone with them. I'm told I'll get a $125 refund, but the attitude of the guy who called me was not very professional so I'm not holding my breath. On second thought, when something stinks as bad as this, perhaps I should hold my breath. What a conundrum. In the end, would I use them again? Absolutely not. Small truck, no care or concern for the inside of your home, super expensive and unprofessional customer care on the back end when there is a problem.
