Look elsewhere.
We had inquired into a short move, less than 90 miles, from state to adjoining state, and had made it quite clear that our expectation was that our belongings would be loaded, delivered and off-loaded the same day. These terms were agreed to and we were assured this would take place, it didn’t.
We had recently returned to the states after living/working overseas; all of our belongings were already boxed up and were in storage – easy pack, right?
We were given a rate of $900 based on the size of our storage unit without a walk through; the driver and one assistant arrived hours late, loaded the truck, and we were told we were over the estimate by more than double, and would need to pay an additional $1500 to deliver and release our personal belongings.
Having no choice, we went to an ATM and paid the ransom being demanded, and confirmed with the driver that he would meet us at our new home in approximately 2.5 hours.
When we arrived at our new location I called the driver to see how far behind us he was, and was told that he was, three hours in the wrong direction; he said that his dispatcher re-routed him and that we would not be receiving our belongings that evening.
As it was now after hours in their office, my wife and I had no choice but to sleep on our new mattress on the floor (luckily, this had been purchased and delivered separately, thankfully), we would have been fine to go to a hotel, however, we had our dog and cat with us, so this wasn’t an option.
The next morning, I called the office to be put on hold and transferred a number of times; finally speaking with a rude “representative”, who told me, they had up to 21 days to deliver our freight; I sent her the confirmation email from her colleague, and she replied, “that’s sales, it doesn’t matter what they say”; it doesn’t?
Later that day I received a call from the same woman who let me know, that our freight was in New Jersey and they could have it delivered the next morning; my wife and I were relieved for about 30 seconds, until she told us that this would be an additional $1000, as, their driver was not “comfortable” parking a 52’ trailer in front of our residence (which happens constantly), so, our delivery would require off-loading everything onto a 24’ box truck for delivery. We were shocked to say the least, however, they had our belongings so we reluctantly agreed, on one condition, we would be there to watch the off-load; it only took a few minutes to reduce the cost to $400, as, of course, there was no “off-load” taking place.
The exact same truck that picked up our belongings two days earlier arrived at our residence the next day, same license plate, etc.; it was obvious this entire scenario was a massive scam. Then we met the “movers".
Again, only two “movers” arrived, both speaking an Eastern European language (I will not state which), and, to say the least, not the most professional people in the world. The one in charge, began the sob story immediately, telling us that they were only paid $100 a day and worked 16 – 18-hour days, and made us “tip them” $100 each before they would unload the truck. Once the racketeering exercise was complete, they began loading in our belongings in a way that resembled a clown car routine, that wasn’t in the least bit funny.
As you would imagine, we had broken furniture, and our brand-new coffee machine was missing; we immediately placed a claim the same day and were told they had up to 120 days to settle the complaint. This was in December of last year; it’s now been 7 months, and, nothing…
No response, no follow up; nothing.
Believe what you read in the negative comments, they are accurate and true; stay away from this organization, do not let happen to you, what happened to us. For us, a lesson learned; hopefully you choose a company that deals honestly and ethically.
Do Not Trust These 5 Star Reviews.
My aunt is moving from NJ to us in NY and we unfortunately got stuck with these fraudulent low lives who give you an initial quote and then continue charging you [EDIT] fees. We should have did more research on the internet and now we're stuck waiting for my aunt's things that should have arrived last night, a delivery date that we agreed to PAY for.
They have multiple complaints filed against them and their negative internet ratings reflect that. When we asked to speak to the person in charge or the sales rep "Danielle Miller", we were given the run around and just kept being passed around as if they were trying to hide something. Currently filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau | US, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and American Moving & Storage Association to get this business shut down.
Based on the reviews from the internet, my aunt's things are probably currently being mishandled and broken.
UPDATE: As of 04/15/19, my aunt still did not get her belongings delivered and are being held hostage. At this point, we are about to bring this into small claims court.
Really good.
Scheduled a big move on relatively short notice and First Class Moving and Storage was able to fit me in within a week.
The move experience was really good. The crew was very professional and I enjoyed the moving experience. The movers were courteous, skilled and fun to work with.
Only one thing got damaged but they immediately scheduled a guy to fix the item.
Overall, I would highly recommend First Class Moving and Storage to move with!
Most wonderful service.
First Class Moving and Storage were GREAT!!
They were very responsive when asking for a quote and stuck to their estimates. They were quite cheap relative to other movers and I do not believe we opted for extra insurance (we're in our mid 20s not moving antiques or anything!)
Moving day was smooth sailing. They arrived in their spectacularly painted truck and got to work. They took a quick inventory and then got started.
It's always awkward waiting for people to work while you do nothing, but they were very nice and personable.
Overall, no 'frills' movers who compete with good quotes. Would definitely recommend these guys and will more than likely use them for our next move.
Do Not Use This Moving Company.
My pick-up time was rescheduled 4 times with one time being 11PM on a Friday night after the company confirmed a pick up time between 3 - 5PM and then another pick up time at 8:30PM when the first one was missed. At 11PM on Friday, the driver suggested I speak with customer service and ask for an updated pick up time for Saturday but not to mention that he suggested this. During this call, Customer Service was helpful and rescheduled pickup for Saturday morning between 9 - 10AM and apologized for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, the driver did not show up between 9-10AM and was not responding to calls from customer service.
Once the driver finally showed up in the afternoon, he was poorly dressed and smoking a cigarette outside of my building door - so much for "professional trained, uniformed and courteous movers". It didn't stop here, the driver had a "team of movers" with him which consisted of his wife and brother whom seemed like they have never packed anything before. If their appearance was the only issue this wouldn't of been the nightmare I had experience. The driver reviewed my items, and promptly told me that the cubic feet I was quoted wasn't enough and I need to see the space in the truck that was allotted for my belongings and that there was an additional long haul fee for 300 feet from my door to the truck that I would need to pay for. He slyly said "I don't need to tell customer service about the additional fee, if you want to work out a tip for us or you can negotiate with customer service". After I brushed off that statement, the driver and his team started packing up my items without confirmation from customer service on the additional cost. When I asked the driver to stop and call customer service to sort the cost out, it seemed out of the ordinary for him to do so.
It took the driver 45 minutes to an hour to talk with customer service before customer service gave me a call and told me that there will be an additional $1400 to the previous estimate of $1100 which will cover the additional 100ish cubic feet, 300ft long haul and the wrapping of a mirror. After battling back and forth or as they would say "negotiating" with customer service and refusing to pay additional fees and telling them to cancel my move, the customer service rep spoke with the supervisor and was able to honor my original estimate without the additional cost. But of course it didn't stop there, she promptly called me back and told me I still would need to pay an additional $300 for the long haul charge and was appalled when I questioned this as I measured the hallway and 300 ft was excessive. However, she was not backing down and continue to scold me on how I am taking money away from the driver and not paying for his labor. While I am having this conversation with customer service, the driver and his team begin to pack up my items which left me no choice but to pay the additional $300 or I would need to pay for their time. After the battle with customer service, it took the movers 3 - 4 hours to pack up a studio apartment as the driver had to continue to teach his "team" on how to package up my furniture and label the inventory sheet. While filling out the paperwork at the end, the driver was unable to calculate the correct amount and missed my mattress and box spring on the inventory list. Luckily, I caught both of his errors and the correct amount and inventory was put on the forms.
The scheduling of the delivery was not as bad as pick-up but the driver only gave a 4 hour notice on when he was going to arrive. Luckily, I was able to accommodate this quick timeline. The driver and his team were more professional than pickup, however not all items were delivered, a boxed was completely smashed and a bookshelf was snapped in half. Which I can make a claim for, but seems like the nightmare will not end.
Good Service.
I had an excellent experience with this service! The movers arrived right on time and were very friendly. As a woman alone with the movers for a few hours, I felt very safe and comfortable.
My pick up address had a narrow street and the movers had to park down the block, which is very inconvenient but they were extremely easy going and assured me it was not a problem.
I am so impressed that the team of 3 movers NEVER SLOWED DOWN!! I have never seen such continuous hustle and I am seriously very impressed!
I would 100% recommend and plan to use them again if I need movers.
Fantastic Experience.
My sister recommended First Class Moving and Storage to me and they did not disappoint. I called several other places and First Class Moving and Storage were the most reasonably priced and did not charge extra for things like a fuel surcharge, blankets, moving mirrors etc.
The team was efficient and easy to work with. I literally sent him an e-mail, we went back and forth a few times, and then I booked it. No muss, no fuss. Piece of cake. And I booked a week before the actual move, with no problem.
The morning of, the three movers showed up on time and got right to work. The guys were friendly, professional and personable. Additionally, they moved all my stuff (and there was A LOT of stuff) quickly and efficiently.
I was thoroughly pleased with First Class Moving and Storage and the group of guys who moved me. There is an excellent team there and all in all was a fantastic experience. I highly recommend!
Great Customer Service.
Yesterday was the second time we used First Class Moving & Storage. Words cannot describe how thankful my husband and I are that they exist.
This time, we moved out of a third floor (!) hell hole apartment into a twin home. They had us loaded in an hour, and unloaded, with everything in the proper location in less than an hour.
The manager and his crew were super personable,
really efficient, and apparently super human.
I could barely carry groceries up to my 3rd
floor apartment without throwing an asthma attack- these guys were up & down what seemed like hundreds of times with boxes on their backs.. And I didn't hear so much as a sigh.
Oh, and the price was bangin', too. Super reasonable and worth every penny hands down.
Thanks, First Class Moving & Storage!
Thank you.
My friend recommended First Class Moving and Storage for my move. I had never hired movers before but I lived in an apartment with a long hallway and 3 flights of stairs so it seemed necessary for this move. I contacted First Class Moving and Storage and the response with the estimate was almost immediate.
I communicated that the new apartment I was moving to had a window for use of the freight elevators and they told me that would be fine. They gave me all the information I needed before move in day to make me feel prepared.
On move-in day, they updated me with their arrival time. They were on time and were extremely nice. They prepared all of my items and handled everything with extreme care. They even helped us take apart our couch since we didn't have the tool needed to do so. We also asked them to move down a table that someone was picking up later and they did so with zero hesitation. Moving into the new apartment was quick and easy.
I would definitely recommend them for a move and will be using them again in the future!
Beware!! do Not Hire This Company For Any Reason!!
BEWARE!! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY FOR ANY REASON!! THEY WILL SCAM YOU, DECEIVE YOU, OVERCHARGE YOU, TAKE WEEKS TO DELIVER YOUR BELONGINGS, AND BREAK YOUR BELONGINGS!!
I hired First Class Moving to move my small amount of belongings (I live in a studio apartment) from Philadelphia to Minneapolis. The initial price estimate I received in my contract was $1,500. THE FINAL PRICE TO ME WAS $3,000!! This difference is due to hidden fees. There was a fee because I lived in a large city, a fee for having an apartment that was over 50 feet from the moving truck (like most apartments), a fee for each stair the movers had to climb (in this case the 3 steps leading up to my front door), a fee because the movers “had difficulty parking”, a fee for the materials they used (a few rolls of tape that they used to secure the moving blankets), a fee for having more belongings than I listed in my inventory (even though I didn’t), and a fee for using more gas than they expected (again, because they claimed that I had too many belongings).
In my contract, it said that my belongings would be delivered in 4-5 days. However, after the movers picked up my belongings from my apartment in Philadelphia, they dropped them off at a warehouse just outside the city. My belongings sat in their warehouse for 10 days before even being loaded onto the truck to Minneapolis, because there “were not enough customers going in the same direction to fill a moving truck”. This was never mentioned until after they had already picked up my belongings. The delivery TOOK 15 FULL DAYS for a drive that should have taken less than 3 days. I had to live in an empty apartment for over two weeks, sleeping on an air mattress, eating frozen microwave meals. I had to start my new job with just the clothing in my suitcase.
And finally, when my belongings were finally delivered, I was shocked by the condition everything was in. The movers had broken legs off of two different tables, shattered my wooden bedframe, punched two holes in my bookshelf, snapped a leg off of one of my dining room chairs, and crushed a lamp. The company has told me that there is no way to be reimbursed for this ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF DAMAGE unless the movers saw the damage when they made the delivery. But of course the movers are in on the scam too; they did their best to hide the broken furniture from me. They even turned my ruined bookcase towards the wall and hid my broken dining room chair so I would not see the damage until after they had left.
DON’T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID!! PROTECT YOURSELF BY CHOOSING A DIFFERENT COMPANY!!
Fantastic attitude from the employees.
I was able to schedule a time that worked well for me. Everything was done quickly, professionally and well.
Moving is a stressful event. Typically, we leave what we know and enter something new that can be both exciting and scary. There are multiple moving parts in a move and sometimes you need to have one or two things just run smoothly. For me, First Class Moving and Storage was exactly that. They showed up earlier than expected, which was great as I originally wanted an earlier time but they had no availability. Driver was brilliant, helping with the heavy boxes. They were super fast to load and unload, careful and very pleasant. I felt extremely comfortable with the service as it was done well.Thank you.
This company ROCKS!
Honestly moving is not easy but how can we forget these nice people who helped us with the first step of moving.
I start Mymovingreviews Cause we were looking for a good reputation and affordable prices moving company.
After calling few people and getting estimates, we end up talking with this company. One thing if possible talk with Jennifer Tyler who is very understanding and respect your needs as a individual client. I did talk with cutomer support manager who is nice but very robotic answers which I understand he was following the company policies. Each client have individual concerns and request. I requested him to send someone to take a look on our stuff (because there was a stop in between at the Storage area) but he didn't respond. Right before the day of moving I spoke with Tyler and got very comfortable.
Anyway, on the moving day their people came on time and all the guys were very nice and friendly. They were very hardworking people and very friendly. Since they were getting paid by hours they were working very fast and nonstop. I got them lunch and drinks because that's the least we can do to appreciate their work. Jennifer Tyler you are blessed to have good people on your team and thank you guys. If I moving again I would love to hire you guys. Highly recommended, great service and very affordable price compared to others. one more thing not a single thing damaged or broken. Thank you again.
COMPLETE SCAM - Get ready to lose THOUSANDS of dollars.
While researching for this move in late Jan, 1st Class Movers encouraged me to get a quote with them over the phone. I was told by Danielle Miller, their sales manager, that because they had a hub in PA and in IL - it would make them the best company to handle my move for the best price. She was SO nice on the phone and was incredibly patient with all of my questions. We did an initial quote for my 2 bedroom house and she quoted me at $1,400 - which included a "special New Years discount." That was SO much less than I ever anticipated, especially considering a local mover quoted me a flat rate of $6,600. She laughed and said it wasn't their fault - they just didn't specialize in inner state moving, so their costs were higher.
Danielle said that the move was much cheaper w 1st Class bc as long as I was flexible on pick-up and delivery date, rather than filling one truck with just my stuff - they would pick up a few houses that were moving in the same general direction.
I went back and forth with Danielle multiple times, and she was very accessible and easy to work with. Until I gave her my deposit - a Zelle transfer of $510.
After the initial deposit, Danielle was rude and more difficult to get a hold of. When I asked to update my inventory closer to the move to get a more accurate quote, she said they were unable to change the estimate within 3 days of the move.
On moving day, my dad was on site to meet the 3 men, who showed up with the truck. My dad said they were great - they worked really hard and he was very impressed with them. So impressed that I tipped each of the 3 workers $30.
Once everything was loaded into the truck, the driver said the balance owed was $2,968 because I was over the est weight. Not bad, considering my original quote was $2,500. Even with my $500 deposit, I felt $3,478 + tips was a good price.
I was contacted that very night by the company, and told I had a balance to pay off before my things could be delivered on Friday. An ADDITIONAL balance of $1,270. They said that the truck they had to bring to my house was a smaller truck than the one they use to cross state to state, so a fee of $1,000 was added on. I was incredibly upset but the employee assured me this was the final cost. I transferred the $1,270 through Zelle.
The next day, I woke up to another phone call that stated that they would need ANOTHER small truck to deliver to my new address in Chicago, and I owed a balance of $2K more. When I asked to speak to a manager, the woman explained she was the manager. When I asked to speak to whoever was above her, she explained to me that she was directly under the owner. I asked to speak to the owner, and was told he was out of the country and not available.
I asked what my options at this point were and she said we could hire another moving company to meet them that very day in Chicago to pick-up my stuff from them at their hub.
Especially since some of my items held considerable emotional value to me (my grandmother's antique chest), I didn't know what else to do. Eventually, she would reduce the amount owed to $1,500 but we had to hand it over in cash or a USPS Money Order before they would unload the truck. My roommate, who was going to receive the delivery in Chicago, went to the post office to get the money order.
On delivery day, the 3 men arrived and told my roommate that bc there were "more than 7 stairs" it would be an additional $300 fee to unload the truck.
When it was all said and done - not including the tips - my total move cost me $6,548. Which.. if you remember.. is just $52 less than the original quote I received from the local guys that Danielle had laughed at.
I cannot tell you how much stress, anger and disappointment this sleazy company brought to me. What should have been a joyful moment in my life was absolutely ruined by their bad business and deceptive pricing.
Moved me from NJ to CA. 5 Stars.
I recently moved with First Class. I got several quotes that were lower but the time that Patrick took with me is why I signed up. This gentleman knew exactly what I needed and showed me how brokers and other moving company's short their estimate to make it look like they are charging less. On move day, Daniel and his helpers took care to wrap everything in blankets and took apart my bed. I paid extra to have a plastic mattress cover they suggested it would keep it clean. I also paid extra for a couple things that I didn't think to box up. The prices were fair and all things considered the pickup went very smooth. At delivery, George delivered in a very large truck with 2 guys helping him. They unwrapped everything, setup my bed and put the furniture where I wanted it. I labeled all my boxes for each room so they knew exactly where to put them. Nothing was broken which is a relief because on my last move the broker I hired out of Florida sent a company that broke my table. I would hire them again if they pick up in California, as my job moves me every few years. There is nothing I can say bad about first class except that I couldn't pay with a credit card, I used QuickPay on my phone instead.
I can't say enough good things about First Class Moving and Storage.
Jennifer, thank you so very much for helping me. We definitely needed your services, and you and your team from First Class Moving and Storage made a huge difference in our getting settled in the entire house, particularly giving us a "head start" in setting up a kitchen that is mutually satisfying to both of us. My husband, Joe, is also pleased with your work; we had 3 great meals at home yesterday..no problem at all..
The house is lovely, but it is also 88 years old, built in 1926, so for the last 3 days we have had no landline phone service. We are continuously discovering things and at the same time marveling at how well cared for the house has been all these years (We should all be so lucky ourselves.). We plan to look into its history. That will be fun and something to share with others like yourself..
Meanwhile, I will recommend your company to my realtor so that he'll have it on file. Also I am definitely going to have a personal assistant help me in IL. when I set an apartment up there. For all time, you have shown the value of a professional organizer for the home. I am so glad we met and we will stay in touch..
Thanks so very much Jennifer for helping and for enabling us to have a beautiful and happy home!
