  1. Damages, Price Increase

BEWARE OF BEKINS VAN LINES. THEY WILL NOT COMPLETE THE MOVE AFTER BEING PAID, THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR FURNITURE, THEY WILL REFUSE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A CLAIM FORM. DESPITE THIER PROMISES, THEY HAVE AVOIDED ANY FURTHER CONTACT WITH ME OR THEIR AFFILIATE.

USE ANOTHER CARRIER THAT WILL PROVIDE SERVICE AND NOT CHEAT YOU!

In June, your local agent quoted me a total moving fee of $770, which was also supposed to include any travel time. This move was actually less mileage than the May move. You charged me an additional $77.50 which is not specified on your invoice. Although I paid the entire fee, I called you the same day to dispute this additional fee. You said it was because your people spent 4 1/2 hours which was a fabrication. Although you told me that the movers would call when they were on route, they did not. I had to call your offices, and finally got called at 9:10 am. I met them at the storage unit at 9:20, and their work was concluded at 12;23. That was 3 hours and 3 minutes. There should have been no additional charge. You have refused to discuss this issue and to provide a remedy. Your own invoice clearly indicated $770.

Your mover dropped and dragged my custom-made bookcase along the cement. He did not offer any apologies. He said he would report it. Apparently, he did not based on my conversations. Before they left, I asked the older mover if the bed had been reassembled. He said "was it supposed to be?" A few minutes later I went upstairs, only to find that the slats were not assembled. He said the slates were the wrong size, and that they were not needed. I called Sealy, Simmons, Serta, and over 10 local furniture companies. All said that all queen and king size beds need slates.

On June 6, I reported this to you. You told me that if you would have to come out for repairs to both my bed and bookcase, that I would be charged $290 for service and a 2 hour minimum.

On June 8, I left a message stating that the entire bed collapsed. I now have a bed that I can neither sleep on, or sit. This was due to the incompetence, negligence or just plain laziness of your employees. Of course, I never got a response from you because it appears that you just don't care. I believe that I am entitled to repairs or replacements if needed.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed. If I do not hear from you by Wednesday, July 14, then I will assume that you do not intend to service my needs. In such case you may be assured that we will pursue other courses of action that will prove both embarrassing and expensive to Bekins.

  2. Do not use this company.

Had a 10K move from Denver to Phoenix and a 300 dollar rug went missing. Bekins denied my claim. If you use this company make their employees go line by line on the inventory on the front end and back end. Make them take the additional 3-4 hours. Had 5 pages of inventory, badly identified and was to sign every one. Missing a 11ftX8ft rug and they said they delivered it like I can't see a rug that big.

  3. Do Not Use This Company.

Rated poorly for: Value, Quality, Responsiveness

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. They severely overcharged my mother and did not honor the terms of her contract. They were inexperienced and damaged her furniture. The customer service is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE.

Bekins didn't send the proper crew to move her (even after they came out to evaluate her needs BEFORE she moved). They took double the time they were supposed to, then inconvenienced her by delivering on Monday when it was supposed to be Saturday. She injured herself helping them move because the crew was insufficient. They damaged her furniture - then tried to charge her more money for their mistakes!

Bekins only response to all of this was to not charge her $1160 more ON TOP of the fortune she already paid to move a 2-bedroom a measly eight (8) miles and waive the $250 deductible for her damage claim.

I have a lot of experience with moving companies and I have NEVER encountered anything like this. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

  4. Bekins Maffucci, Amityville NY.

Very nice people but that's where it ends. My move was
grossly underestimated leaving me with a bill nearly double than
my quote. My move ended up in 2 separate shipments 2 weeks
apart. I have a lot of broken china because they didn't acknowledge the words "fragile" or "this side up" I found one
box of China under 4 other heavier boxes and on it's side.
Worst of all is that they smashed a dresser beyond repair, every
piece of outdoor furniture is scratched - no joke - every piece.
I'm missing 3 legs to one table and one leg to a couch. The furniture they did put together is wobbling. The whole experience was awful. I feel had and I hate that feeling.
no matter what they promise. Don't believe them.

  5. Missing items.

I would never use this company again ! N CA to E PA. 6 major prior moves and this first time for missing items from furniture to kitchen to clothes. Bekins said they asked everyone involved and no one has my items and there is no proof I had these items. Also a first their insurance only covers items they actually pack.

  6. Terrible Experience.

We hired Bekins to move us 1500 miles across the country and it was the worst experience I have ever had - in. my. life. ever. They wouldn't pack a desk and a cabinet because they were ikea. They said they would not take those - because they would fall apart and they couldn't take responsibility for furniture like that. Then we had to leave towards the end of the day to sign closing papers on our house and when we got back - the movers were gone. They had left glass for my sofa table, a refridgerator in the garage and all of my garden pots(very large which are expensive), garden tools and shepards hooks, etc.. So my husband had to actually change his plane ticket and stay an extra day to be able to handle those items. We called Bekins and they said sorry but would not give us any kind of a discount and said we would not get any of our things back unless we paid in full. I absolutely do not recommend Bekins - do not risk the things you care about to those crooks.

  7. Random Extra charges.

After my mother's death we contracted Bekins to move items from her estate to three siblings in Scotland, Toronto and Alberta.
We agreed to allow Bekins to deliver these goods when it was most convenient for them for a lower fee. After waiting for over a month, Laura from Bekins called to inform me that they would be delivering items to my home on . I was just recovering from an accident that has put me in the hospital. I explained my situation and requested that the items be kept where they were being in storage just a little longer and Laura replied that the item had been loaded on a truck to Calgary and would be there on Thursday. NO FLEXABILITY HERE
Laura went on to inform me that the items would be dropped at a storage facility in Calgary and that I would be billed and extra $400 for delivery as well as a monthly storage fee. I contacted the owner to express my concerns and he said he would get back to me. It has been over two months and I still have not heard from him.
When I called to make arrangements about paying the storage fee, Laura informed me that they would be billing me an extra $40 per month for insurance on top the the fees that had already been paid for insurance.
    Thank You, Bekins
    PS
For any one reading this review, I highly recommend Williams Moving and Storage. They stick to their prices and provide excellent customer service. :).

  8. Stolen Items.

We set up a full-house, packing, moving, and unpacking with Bekins in Vancouver, BC. My husband and I, as well as other family members, have used United Van Lines (parent company of this Bekins), for local and interstate moves in the US over the years, and we have been quite satisfied. We have never filed any complaints prior to the move from Vancouver to California. This move was a serious problem from beginning to end. I still would not have written a review except that there were items that did not get to our destination. This included our sons brand new XBox 360 as well as three hand-sized pieces of art (glass icons) that were purchased by my mother in Stockholm in 2001 as a gift. Our son noticed his XBox was missing while the movers were still unpacking our boxes. My mother was the one who noticed our Swedish glass icons were missing. When I filed my claim with United Van Lines they responded with a letter saying our claim was denied because we had signed that all the boxes had been received. I spoke with Ashley in the claims dept., and explained that their employees had packed everything and I didn't know my items weren't in one of the packed boxes (there were 5 different Bekins employees packing throughout the day). The destination movers started unpacking the day after the truck unloaded the boxes, which was the day after I signed that I had received the boxes. Ashley told me she would follow up with my Carlsbad, CA representative that had arranged all our previous moves. This local rep came out to my house to talk with me the day the truck was being unloaded because I had told him about the nightmare situation with Bekins (before I even knew the items were missing). At any rate, Ashley never called me back, and wouldn't return the six voice messages I left for her. I asked the switchboard to connect me to another claims adjuster, who said she would give Ashley my message. A couple days later, I received another letter from Ashley that was identical to her first "claim denied" letter, except for the date. Every communication I made with Bekins and/or United was professional and courteous. I am just amazed at their brazen disregard for my stolen items. We have paid United more than $50,000 in moving charges in the past 20 years, and have never once complained. This is how they treat a loyal return customer. I would recommend that, as a customer, you do not sign the box that says all your items have been received. I am now filling out the papers for small claims court. I have never filed a lawsuit in the past. I don't know if I'm wasting my time or not, but if this is how a "reputable" mover treats a customer, I'll be using a couple of local college kids next time anyone in our family moves.

  9. Wonderful Experience.

We have had a wonderful experience using Bekins for our move to Arizona. The same nice man loaded our belongings in Lakeport, Ca and delivered them to our new home in Scottsdale, Az/ Everything arrived in exactly the same condition it was when packed. Nothing was harmed or broken. The truck and staff arrived at exactly the time they had quoted to us in both locations. We would definitely use Bekins again, tho am hoping this will be our last move.

    Thanks, Bekins

  10. Very poor / criminal.

We've moved 7 times with various movers and have always been pleased. However, this last move was with Bekins and I have been extremely dissatisfied. I would NEVER recommend this moving company to anyone! They took my mother's sterling silverware (12 piece setting) which was in a beautiful in-laid wooden container with drawers and side pockets. It was very old and very valuable to me. The last time I saw it was in our home in the living room as they packed. Also what was suspicious was that we never got a list of all our items moved (1st time that's ever happened). The driver said he forgot the list and promised to send it to us. Of course, nothing ever came of it. Likewise, the concerns and claims we made to Bekins resulted in no action whatsoever. It would have even been nice to just receive an apology. I believe Bekins is rife with thieves and crooks. I can never say anything positive about Bekins. In the vernacular of the day - they suck!

  11. Worse Movers Ever.

I had the estimator from Bekins come to my home, showed her everything that was to be moved. My garage was full. Her estimate to me was for 9 hours. I hired a Skinny Bin prior to the move and got rid of 1.52 tons of stuff from the garage. Movers took 13.25 hours. They took lots of breaks, took their time loading my stuff. One guy kept asking the other mover what he should be taking out next. Stood around while the other mover wrapped my items, such as TV's. The Bekins estimator ordered 3 movers and a 5 ton truck and they didn't get all my stuff on the truck. They were the worst movers I have ever used. Would never use them again and would not recommend them to anyone. Contacted the Bekins estimator after the move and she referred me to their Operations Manager. I emailed him and never heard back from him at all to address my concerns. Totally unprofessional company..do not know what they are doing and inflate the costs.. Worst moving experience of my life..
