  1. Moving Storage from Hawaii to California

I moved from Hawaii to California just shy of 13 years ago. I had left a bunch of items in storage thinking I was gonna be moving back pretty quick!! Long story short, I met my husband, bought a house, and adopted 2 dogs. So, I'm staying in Cali!! After so much time, I kinda forgot exactly what I had left in storage!! But, I finally had the opportunity to move my things here. After some research on companies specializing in long distance moves I settled on City Moving.

From my initial contact with [NAME EDIT] (sales). To [NAME EDIT] (customer suport). To [NAME EDIT] (billing). To [NAME EDIT] (local area manager). And my movers, MY MOVERS!! both in Hawaii and here, I can't express how amazing and awesome and pretty stress free they all made this stressful experience!!! [NAME EDIT] was very communicative, and took all my crazy questions and concerns with patience and consideration!! The moving team on both ends were fast, careful and just plain nice and a pleasure to work with!! Considering all the craziness that's happening at our ports, all my things arrived timely and in perfect condition!! If you are worried about moving long distance, I do recommend that you stay in constant contact, and ask your "silly" questions!!! Your things are valuable, if not monetarily, sentimentally. And you too should be responsible and proactive in participating in helping the move be successful. City Moving(s) team was amazing! I was extremely worried about the cost of the move, how long it would take, and the care my things would receive!! All those worries were taken into consideration by City Moving, and put to rest!! I would definitely use them again in the future (hopefully not soon tho) lol And MOST DEFINITELY would recommend them!!! To friends and family too!!!

  2. Go elsewhere

They do not communicate well with their customers and other departments. I have been waiting on a call back for the past 2 days and have called several times, texted them and emailed them. For the cost I paid I would expect them to be giving better service. Please save your time and money and go with another company that provides a better customer experience with a long distance travel.

  3. Worst Move Experience

We moved from Honolulu to San Diego and the move was horrible all around. Picking up our stuff, the movers showed up 5 hours late and could’ve cared less about our belongings. Then we were mislead about when we would receive our things. When we tried to call to check where our stuff was, no one would answer or we would get sketchy answers like, “It’s in the warehouse, you will get it soon.” Finally, our stuff arrived almost 2 months after being picked up. Our belongings were gross, covered in dirt, broken, and we had almost $1,000 in missing items. They claimed to have “found” our missing items and were supposed to ship them to us, but we have yet to receive them. If you value your belongings at all, please don’t use this company.

  4. TRAUMATIZED

WORST MOVING EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. TRAUMATIZED. ANY GOOD REVIEWS LIKELY FAKE. YOU WILL REGRET IT. I value my anonymity but also really want to protect others from this company. Sort reviews by "Lowest" and you will clearly see a pattern. We moved from San Francisco to Honolulu in May. They promised the world before they locked down our business and indicated that they would deliver our things by a certain date. Once they had our deposit and furniture, they could have cared less on their delivery date and instead started to refer us to the buried fine print. It took a couple of weeks longer than expected for our furniture to arrive which forced us to spend money on temporary provisions. They had offered a $500 discount, and now, months after delivery, they are trying to invoice us for the discount that they apparently have retroactively decided not to honor and is calling a mistake (even after we provided all documentation). There is no reasoning with the customer service agent [NAME EDIT]. She constantly gaslights us every time we have a conversation with her. THIS IS A PLACE OF BUSINESS?! How are they legally still allowed to operate? So much time and energy wasted over email and over the phone communicating with unreasonable people. Not to mention they accidentally delivered someone else's box spring when they did eventually deliver our furniture. We contacted them more than once and they never came back to pick it up. We had to call the city to remove it off our property. It's clear that City Moving only cares about getting paid and have absolutely no regard for their customers' property or timeline.

  5. Frustrating experience

It started in Hawaii. Ilina gave the quote on the phone, took the deposit with creditcard over the phone, and said to call her with questions and changes. That never happened: she was either “away”, or coming late that day, etc. there was Mike whom helped me with questions. He gave me the name of a person who would take care of transporting the car: another headache!

Then I started to get” updates” from Daniel who was in charge of my shipment. Ex: expect the truck during the week of... expect a call from the 16th to the 20th. Then I got a call from the driver with charges unknown to me, like 150 to climb to second floor..they knew what floor to deliver when they asked many intake questions.

BOTTOM LINE:when you start to run into problems, no one knows anything, there is no solution. They all have to talk to their managers, they don’t call you back. You are on your own. I am an elder person, visually impaired, and was advised to deal directly with the truck driver about the unexpected fees. For me to pay the balance, they would not accept credit card over the phone, and suggest me to go to the bank to get cash. I had to explain that I don’t drive. However they took the deposit over the phone. Boxes arrived, some stuff broken, of course. Not even interested to pursue losses. I do not recommend this company at all. It’s one misinformation after another. Needless to say that the company has not followed up on how the boxes arrived.

  6. Worst in the world, bar none.

If you want your things lost, if you want to be lied to on a regular basis, if you want to lose money because you were counting on the shipped items to rent a condo you had purchased, then these floosies are your company. I was promised at every phone call that it would take 3-4 weeks for my things to arrive in Honolulu. It was double that time. Then they lost a mattress, and an antique bed footboard which was irreplaceable. And if you call them to find out what is going on, they ignore you and don't get back to you. 1) They have your money. 2) They have the small print the absolves them of any wrong-doing, they can blame any number of other entities for their incompetence, and 3) they will not help you through the stressful process of moving once they have your money. That's all they want: the money. And then you can go take a flying leap because they will not be there to help you. They will ignore you and they could care less what happens to you and your stuff. They, in effect, are giving you their middle finger.

  7. Job Offer.

I got a job offer in Seattle and needed to move quickly. City made things happen and they packed my things and started moving my things in a few hours. They packed my things carefully and once I arrived to my new apartment they delivered my things and unpacked them for me on schedule. I recommend their services if you need to make a move

    Without any hassles.

  8. Had to move again.

I had to move again for work and this time to Seattle. Luckily I don’t have more than a studio worth of things.

City did a great job for me again and I had no issues at all. This time they also transported my car for me and the cost for the move was quite reasonable.

  9. Came Prepared.

City was prepared on how to make our move as easy as possible from

When we first called them. We were moving from Palm Desert to Las Vegas and really needed a reliable moving team that wouldn’t cost too much or be overly complicated to deal with. City met our needs well and worked with us closely during the process to make sure everything went smoothly. The cost was fine considering the personal attention and the care they showed with moving our things. There was no loss or damage or any other issues during the process.

  10. Great work.

Great work from beginning to end really. I was referred to City to handle my move to Hawaii and it needed to be done quickly and also included moving 2 vehicles.

Everything lined up well from when I first contacted them and there were no surprises along the way. They met my expectations and there were no bait and switches regarding additional costs or time needed to complete the move.

  11. Recommend.

A friend in Hawaii referred me to these guys. They didn’t a great job on my move from La Jolla last week. The cost was fair and they were approachable and easy to work with.

The quality of the packing materials

They used was quite good and none of my things were lost or damaged.

  12. Fine movers, bad customer service.

City Moving, while nice, were overall not good at their job of moving our stuff from A to B.

Overview: Movers were fine, nice and fast but had minor damage on a few things. Customer service was an absolute mess. They failed to change vital information despite repeated attempts do so including not updating half our estimate and trying to charge us $2,300 more because of it, and almost sending our things to the wrong address (that was misspelled to begin with). Overall, I'd choose someone else. Further details below.

    The deets:

The movers were on time, nice, and professional. They also slightly damaged our most-prized piece of furniture among other things. It happens but that side gets a 3/5 - they're cheaper and we can repair most all the damage.

Customer service was horrid. They were kind, but unfortunately ineffective. We had to change our destination for the move, and had to inform City Moving five times because, despite telling them on the phone, in print, and through their official forms, they never changed the address until the day before because I asked them about it. If I hadn't, there's a great chance our things would have gone to the wrong place.

The estimate process was another headache. When calling for an initial estimate, the rep said all that was needed was a rough estimate and the large pieces of furniture - *this is false* - be very thorough as every sq. ft. not in that estimate will be 2x as much day of. This would have been fine, except I had tried to update our estimate when we found out we had more to pack. They never updated the estimate and I only avoided paying an extra $2,300 because I had in writing that I had been trying to update it - so *get everything in writing*. This, paired with them downplaying the importance of the estimate initially, comes off as a bit shady. If I were being ungenerous, I'd suspect that they were trying to trap us into paying a higher price by getting us to leave things off the estimate. Though, I am sure it was just one of the many errors on their end.

They also showed up a month after our initial pickup. This was the limit of their allowable time. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. If you need your stuff fast, choose someone else.

Heck, overall, I'd choose someone else.

  13. Great experience.

The team arrived on time and well prepared. There were ample workers to get the job done well and quickly. We didn’t have a lot of things but the things we have are quite high-end and needed a lot of care. The cost was well worth the quality of the work provided.

  14. Recommend.

City came through for me and my family during a fairly last minute move last week. We had an entire household and two vehicles to move as my husband got a job transfer to Honolulu. One issue we had was initially two fewer movers arrived at our property on the day of packing and moving but that was quickly rectified when I contacted the Parke they manager. She sent out two additional movers to assist right away. The cost was fair and we would recommend their services.

  15. Malicious damage.

We moved from LA to Hawaii with another company and everything was perfect. Moving from Hawaii to Idaho was a disaster. I opted for the 100% insurance coverage just to be sure. We were given written instructions on how to pack. No problem, we used lots of good packing material. Aside from being late, all of our boxes arrived crushed, all our dishes, glasses, anything breakable, broke. Our metal bed frame was bent, our computers and monitors were smashed, I took over a hundred photos of the damage. We were then told that they are denying any liability because we packed our own boxes- as they instructed us to do. When I produced the instruction sheet they said the best they could do was refund our insurance premium. I got my premium back but suffered easily $15,000 in damage. They did give me $32 for our $2500 memory foam mattress that was soaked in water like a sponge.
