  1. Satisfied Customer.

I contracted Merit van lines last December to move my family and I from Pennsylvania to North Carolina. Our new home wasn't completely rennovated, so after Merit picked up our goods, we had them store our belongings in their storage unit for a few months. The movers were great at the pick up. They carefully packed up our fragiles and handled our furniture with care. I contacted Meme the manager in March about setting up the delivery of our stuff. She was very friendly and attentive. We received our belongings three days after calling for delivery which made us very pleased. When the delivery truck arrived, the driver was very nice and did a wonderful job setting up our furniture and reassembling everything. My children were very happy to have their toys back and my husband and I were very happy to see that we had no damages or broken items. I hope I never have to move again, but if I have to I will definitely use Merit van lines. .

  2. This is The Worst Company Ever!!

I made a huge mistake by doing business with Merit Van Lines. My representative is named Lola and my conversations with her were pleasant but she did not give me the correct information and that completely screwed me over. I informed her of the furniture that I had, I even completed an inventory list. I was first quoted at $900 but because of a very heavy and expensive vase that was not wrapped up, she informed me my quote would go from $900-$915. I agreed to pay the extra $15 and set up the move from a storage unit in NJ to an apartment in FL. I also informed her that I love on the third floor, even though the first floor is on the ground and there are only two flights of stairs. She assured me that it would not be a problem and did not mention an additional fee. I also informed her that I would not be present for the move, I would have my aunt there.

The movers were a few minutes late picking up my things however, my aunt was there along with my mom and they met the movers at the unit. After seeing how much stuff I had, the driver informed me it would be an additional cost. They claimed I had more than I had put on the inventory list. Remembering that I did have a few extra things, I was then charged an additional $300. I agreed to pay it, which was a mistake. I called often to check on my things because I felt like I was given the run around. I understood that the move would take some time but I was not aware that it would take longer than two weeks, which it did. I began to have most of my conversations with the manager, Meme who was nice at first but wasn't very diligent in getting back to me the way I had hoped and expected. The driver called and said he would be there on a Saturday but because the truck broke down, he did not get there until Monday morning. Lola knew that I live in a gated community but when the driver got there he immediately told me that the tuck could not fit. He also asked what floor I live on and when I told him he said he would have to charge me $75/7 steps. The driver was rude, disrespectful, and very obnoxious. He told me that only for an extra $150 would he take my things to the front of my building, which had me confused because he said he would if I paid him $150 more than I was told. He had four men with him to help move me into my apartment, however they were not men who worked for the company rather than four men he hired off of Craigslist. He, Ronny the driver, said he could take my things to a storage unit but was not willing to go through the gate to drop off my things where he should have. The storage place was closed and he to wait for them to open, he would have to charge me $150. I told him no I would not and therefore he ended up dropping my things off on the side of the road near the interstate. I spoke to Meme and informed her of the terrible experience I had with their driver. She and I actually got into an argument because she did not believe me when I told her I did not know there was a extra fee to go up stairs. She said it was in the contract I was not present to sign.. I was never told this over the phone until after my stuff was already in FL. Meme said the phone conversations were recorded and she would listen to them and I could hear them. When I asked for that privilege later on in the day, I was denied. I ended having to rent a uHaul truck to pick my things up from the side of the road. The men from Craigslist assured me that they have nothing to do with what's going on and they will help move my things to the apartment. They informed me that Ronny, shorted them out of some money he promised.

My Fiancé' and I ended up paying the 4 men $50 a piece for their help. When I told Meme we did this she said it was our doing and the company has nothing to do with how much we paid the workers. She also told me that there were only two guys, she asked the driver. I then gave her the 2 out of the 4 drivers phone numbers that she could call to verify what I was telling her. She then called back after not bothering to call them and said she spoke to the driver again and he then admitted to hiring 4 drivers. I explained to her that everything I told her was correct and she had nothing to say. She said she needed to speak with her CO and she would get back to me. I noticed that the vase I paid extra money for was broken in pieces, I have pictures. I called her back to inform her and had to leave a message because she was supposedly in a meeting. Because she had told me not to call, she would call me and I did anyway, she got really upset which caused me to be really upset. My aunt also called because she had a question I could not answer. This is the same aunt that was there on pick-up. I have several things broken along with my two end tables which the legs were taken off but never given to me. I paid $250 for the vase and $349 for both large solid wood end tables. Another small vase was broken $75 and a few dishes totaling $50. A lot of my furniture was scratched and the glass in my coffee table is cracked and worth $200. I have pictures to prove all of this.

When I spoke to Meme she said that her Co is willing to offer me a refund of $160 but ONLY if I send the company an email stating that I am satisfied with the services I received from their company. I refused to do so. I feel I was being bribed. Meme even tried to talk me into taking the bribe by asking me what I would do in that situation and why I didn't feel that the deal I was given was good enough. I am filing a claim for my broken and scratched items. Meme tried to tell me that my 51 year old aunt and 50 year old mom put my vase in a box and did not wrap it, which was not true. I get get sworn statements from both of them regarding that. My vase was thrown into a huge box with things thrown inside of it. It was not protected and therefore it broke. I had a horrible experience with this company and completely feel that I was taken advantage of. I paid the company $1200 and mt stuff was dropped of on the side of the read. Meme told me that the driver was “terminated” but I don't believe that at all. The driver was throwing my things off the truck and I have witnesses to prove that. Even one of the women who here in the office said people move in with trucks that size all the time and he could have fit, he just did not want to. He was so rude and I just would not ever use nor recommend this company to anyone moving.

  3. Fast.

These guys are great. My co-worker referred me to them. They gave me a great price and they put everything in writing. The movers that came to my house were just amazing. They work very fast and at the same time very careful I was very impressed. The delivery time was quick. I am very pleased with Merit Van Lines and I will use them again in the future. Thank you Merit.

  4. Worst moving experience ever had.

I wouldn't refer my worst enemy to them. The final price was double the estimate. Even though it was the owner with 30 years of experience that came and gave the estimate.
Every single piece of my furniture was severely damaged and when I asked to put a claim in to their insurance that they supposedly have, hey refused to make a claim saying that they have a high deductible and they would not waste it on me!
I was instructed by the owner, earl, that if I didn't like it then I can sue him. Nice guy! What a way to run a business!
Like I said, do not use them, ever! They are careless and owner very nasty, unprofessional, and completely void of morals.

  5. Hidden Costs and Insurance Scams.

Moving with Merit was a HORRIBLE experience. We were moving from New York to Los Angeles. We got quotes from Merit and from Flat Rate and went with Merit because it was cheaper. Well, you get what you pay for. Alan was the rep on our move and was all nice and accommodating until I signed something and the process really started. On the day of the move, his office had not faxed the insurance information to our building so we had to wait almost an hour to start. Since trucks in New York can easily get tickets when parked on the street, we'd been promised that the team would be four workers and one extra person to stay in the truck, and when they arrived it was only four people, so we were down a guy causing the move to run VERY long. I will say, the team of movers in New York was great. We really liked them, but that was the only positive point of this whole experience. Naturally, the estimate we'd been given based on all of the inventory in our apartment was nowhere near the price we had to pay for the cubic footage our things occupied in the truck. It was almost double what we'd been quoted. Then when our things arrived in Los Angeles, suddenly there were more hidden costs. First, the truck couldn't fit in our driveway because it was so large, so Alan and Merit tried to tack on more money to transfer all of our things to a smaller truck. The option of having a smaller truck come for delivery had been discussed with us but no one had EVER said it was more money. We ended up getting temporary parking permits from the city, but the entire thing was a huge headache. Only two movers arrived at our new place. The guy who'd been driving the truck and another worker. The driver seemed to not know the other worker and was incredibly rude and hateful to him during the entire unloading process. We had floors scratched and noticed that one large container full of clothes was missing. The driver confirmed that it was missing but said he could only leave us our stuff if we signed the paperwork. He said he'd otherwise have to take it back, but he assured us we could still file a claim with no issue. Alan did nothing to locate our lost/stolen items when I asked them for assistance (of course at this point, they had our money). And the result of us filing an insurance claim? Because we signed the paperwork, they will pay us NOTHING for it. The driver told us we had to sign the paperwork to keep our things upon delivery or they'd take it back, but as soon as we signed, the insurance was no longer valid. HUGE SCAM! So, that container of clothes cost us another $1500 or so. Bottom line, moving with these guys was a HUGE mistake! Don't put yourself through it!

  6. Good moving.

The guys did a good job. Thank you merit van lines. Good job A.

  7. Price changes chrges for insurance that I never got.

I hired Merit Van Lines to move my possessions from Pa. to Fl. They never came to see what I had. The $$ changed over & over. I purchased extra insurance. Never got the copy of policy,(required by law), then was referred to Paf insurance who also charged me the same cargo insurance. I never got a policy in hand from them either. They were rude, impatient, and dismissive. Thay all gave contact info that was disconnected or fax ph. lines. Both refuse to refund my money, which is almost $900.00. I have no move now & they both charged my credit card. PAF insurance even posted my credit card # on the internet!

  8. Reliable Movers.

GREAT JOB!! Made my move very easy going. Helpful and proffessional yet friendly office staff. Knowledgeable moving team and very careful. Price qouted was $3723.00 and I only paid $3300. They included some packing. Pick up was ontime and delievery was fast. They did a wonderful job with packing and handling my stuff. Thank you Merit. WILL USE AGAIN AND 110% RECOMMEND.

  9. Never use this company.

First off, this is the WORST COMPANY in the world. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT use this company. Save yourself a serious headache. We were moving a studio apartment from NY to DC. The only positive experience I had was with Alex and his team (who packed up our place promptly). Absolutely everyone else I dealt with at the company was terrible. The scheduling was awful, they weren't able to give us any idea of when they'd be able to deliver all of our things. First they told us, Monday or Tuesday, and then 3 days before the weekend, Allen told us with "reasonable certainty" that they could guarantee a Saturday or Sunday move. We called Thursday and Friday to see when they would be able to move our stuff down. No answer. They "still weren't sure" even though they originally told us they could tell us within 24 hours of the move. Saturday rolls around, still "no clue." Sunday rolls around and they tell us that they can't deliver it until Sunday at midnight or Monday morning. When they originally told us a Saturday or Sunday move, we expected anytime during those DAYS not midnight of the last day. So we already had things scheduled. Neither of us was able to be there, and then they said the next possible day would be the following week. We wanted to make sure we got out stuff as quickly as possible, so we had to loop in a family member to be there Monday morning between the hours of 8 and 9. Amit and his team rolled in at 930. Already late. THEN, he had the audacity to park in FRONT OF THE BUILDING, but wait for it, because the 2 people who were working for him had to walk to the side door, NOT amit himself (who stood idly by the truck the entire time and didn't lift a finger), he charged $250 extra because it wasn't parked in front of the side door. Well hey buddy, if you're double parked anyway in FRONT of the building, then you can double park in front of the side entrance and not have an extra 5 feet to walk. Ok but even before he allowed his minions to unload the car, he absolutely refused to unload anything out of the car, UNTIL HE HAD CASH IN HIS HAND. He refused to take check of any kind and only allowed cash or money orders. Obviously he was doing shady business and wanted to pocket all this money. This includes the absurd $250 extra "long walk" (for an extra 5 feet) charge. So our family member had to run around to 3 different ATMs to withdraw cash. The 2 minions who worked for him were even scared of him. (he doesn't share any tip with them). What we were originally quoted of $800 turned out to be $2500 with a bunch of hidden and extra fees. I Would NEVER EVER EVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN NOR WOULD I WISH that ANYONE go through the same headache and the awful experience we had to experience. OH I FORGOT THE BEST PART. they dismantled several pieces of furniture: TV stand and couch and originally told us everything would be put back together. Was it? OF COURSE NOT. They left it in our apartment with pieces missing! They said they "tried and failed" BUT EVERYTHING WAS STILL WRAPPED UP THE WAY IT WAS ORIGINALLY WRAPPED SO did they even try? NO BUT THEY DID MANAGE TO LOSE THE PIECES! I had to go to the hardware store and by trial and error find the right pieces to put our TV stand back together as well as our couch legs. again, WORST COMPANY EVER. If this doesn't convince you that you shouldn't use this company, well then happy moving.

  10. Honestuy and Length of time to move.

Merit Van Lines is a joke!
They fill your head with promises that they never intend to keep!
Read the contract before you sign, they told me that they would have my things to me by April sixth and it's now the fourteenth and I was told today that they hoped to get here by Wednesday or Thursday of NEXT week!?
When I tried to speak to someone in a decision making position I was told that she was it and there was nobody else to go to?
The contract states that they have until today and it's not here so tomorrow I have to meet with an attorney and see what options I have, I was counting on my things to get money to spend on food, they really need to go back to school and learn how to run a company.
    My things haven't arrived yet.
