  1. Cross country move

After reading the numerous negative reviews relating to Mission Transportation, I would like to add our experience with them to the list. We had their appraiser, Alan, visit our home in July, 2021 and gave us an estimate of $6800 (about half of what other moving companies were charging). What appealed to us was 30 days of free storage at their facility in San Diego; our move was scheduled for mid-September and closing on our new home for mid-October. Mission does not operate with their own fleet of trucks or personnel - everything is contracted out. 3 college age men came out, loaded and labeled all items from our storage unit, then drove to our home to load remaining items. This is when the fun began. With only a few boxes left to load, the lead mover told us that we had exceeded the projected square footage and would have to pay an additional $2600 to finish loading. After speaking with Adam (the company owner) we settled on $1000. The rest of the items were loaded, and as a good faith gesture, I wrote a check for 70% of the total with the balance due on delivery. Fast forward to mid-October as our closing date is approaching, we are now out of California and in Carolina and have heard nothing from Mission - no updates at all, no communication. No messages returned. After uncounted attempts, I finally get through and am told that they don't have any drivers/trucks and shipment will be delayed - while wanting to charge us for exceeding the 30 day free storage! After much haggling, we finally (at no extra charge) nail down a delivery date. Closed on home October 20. Actual delivery November 4. Driver demands payment balance before unloading, hires 2 men from another local company to assist in unloading, leaves 32 boxes that do not belong to us on our driveway (that are eventually pickup up 1 month later), and drives away deserting the 2 hired hands that were kind enough to stay and help bring items from our garage/driveway into our home. DO NOT be deceived by Mission's offer of free storage and their initial lower bids - they are dishonest and not transparent in their business dealings. Pay a little more and hire anyone but these people.

  2. Don't do it!

I have struggled with whether or not to write the review. The last time I left a review for any business was 6 years ago, when I had another terrible experience with another mover. Why are they like this?

Mission showed up at 1pm to move a 5 bd 4 bath house. It then took about an hour with Adam to agree on a new price because the 12k quote we got was supposedly wrong and off by 5k. Adam goes on and on about their A+ rating on BBB. We agreed on an additional 3k instead. The crew then left to go buy supplies at home depot. They started moving at ~3pm till 11pm. The driver sends all the movers home then comes in to tell us that our stuff did not fit, call the office in the morning to figure out what to do with the remaining 20% of our stuff. They left things randomly all over our house unpacked.

We spoke to Adam 1st thing in the morning, he says to speak to the owner. We communicate with the owner who eventually tells us in the afternoon that he has no driver available and btw they usually don't take responsibility for things not fitting in the truck, they can give us a $300 discount for our trouble (we never got the discount btw).

We had to find a new mover, pay an additional $2500 to move the rest of our stuff. Our cross-country move was delayed by 2 additional days trying to get a new mover.

We paid for the full service: packing, unpacking, reassemble whatever they dissembled. When Mission delivered our stuff they again showed up late in the day with only 2 men to unload the truck. They had to return the next day to finish unloading, assembled one bed, and left.

We had many damages small items that are not worth placing a claim for (e.g. dishes). I have just filed a claim for damaged furniture, we will see how it goes.

    Just save yourself the headache.

  3. You have been warned!

Avoid at all costs! I was really impressed with Mission until moving day. That's when it all turned to hell. 1st I want to preface by saying I had an in home estimate, not a zoom call. Allen spent 2 hours at my home. My move included packing as well. I informed Allen my last move took over 1 truck and the packing was done on the day before. He informed me it would fit in 1 truck and one day to pack and move would be fine. That's when I should have run away! I was paying $20 a box to pack, however, I was told that would be for any size. Little did I know they would use small book boxes for the kitchen to double the count and cost to me. My estimate was for a full truck; however, 1/2 way through the move I received a VERY nasty call from Adam, telling me my move was going to cost me another couple of thousand dollars for using a full truck and up to another 6k if I went over. When I tried to explain, he stated I was making a big deal over 5%. It was 50%, not 5. He also told me he could leave the job or leave anything over 1 truck at my old house. I wss moving to another state.. They were supposed to show up between 9 and 12 and also arrived late. The actual movers were very nice BUT didn't finish until almost 10 pm. I was still required to pay another 2k. My move was over 12k. In addition to wall damage. I also just found out they left a priceless large framed photo collage that I have no idea how to get back. I forgot to mention they also don't answer the phones on Sat. so I had no way to find out where my movers were. Fast forward to Sun. Adam called to apologize and told me my 1st truck should be leaving Sun night or Monday and he would call me. Today, Wed. after receiving no call, I called and was told the driver would call me. That never happened either! I have no idea where my trucks are and when I will receive my items from truck 1, let alone truck 2. Worst experience in moving and getting overcharged. I forgot to mention I ended up reducing the items by donating a lot and also packed a lot myself or I would have been even more screwed! STAY AWAY and dont be fooled by their niceness before the move! Now my Mission is to warn everyone about Mission!

  4. UNETHICAL and DISHONEST

    UNETHICAL and DISHONESt

On the day of the move, our crew showed up over an hour later than our quoted 3 hr window.

Then, they pressured us to quickly sign a contract stating they could not begin the job until it was signed. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to us the contract differed from our by nearly double. At this point we had no other option than to proceed as we had a deadline to be out of our home that day. The the movers did not complete their job on time - taking two days.

Long story short, it was not until we were on the plane ready to depart for our flight the following day when we received word from our buyers that our stuff not vacated from the property and they had broken a door and taken items that were not to have been packed. We are now sitting 2 weeks later without our belongings, told we will not receive them unless we pay double what was quoted.

After putting a similar review on Google, I was called byMission telling me that my “$300 discount was no longer” that - oh well.

  5. MOVER BEWARE!!!

Wish I didn't have to even put a star, but have to initiate a comment, I have to. Adam is never in the office. The one time I did speak to Adam, he told me I could call him anytime. He's right, I can call anytime, whether he will respond with a call back is another story. He hasn't. I called Steve S., one of the "higher ups". He can't give me any definitive ETA. I was told by Adam on 3/31/21, it would be 2-3 weeks for delivery from time I initiated call to get my belongings, which was actually 3/29--took them two days to call me back. On April 15, I received an e-mail from the broker who brokered the job (Mega Van Lines--they are just as horrible and their business practices are as shystery as Mission), saying that I was "estimated to receive delivery sometime next week, once it gets closer to your location the drivers will give you a call with an ETA." I talked to Steve on April 23, and he told me, "They're working on it." I called Steve on Thursday, left a message, no response. I called the office on Friday (4/30), Ashley said the manager Adam wasn't in an office, but she would check on it and call me back in a couple hours. I never got a call back. I wish they would just tell me the truth--they don't know, but they will call me back every few days to keep me apprised. They'd rather lie and create this culture of distrust for their industry than to be upfront and practice honorable business ethics that cultivates trust in their industry. I don't believe anything they say. I don't know how they look in the mirror or sleep at night. My recommendation for anyone doing a cross country move is to do it yourself. Plan for it to take longer, get a friend or family member to drive a moving truck with you. Do not support an industry that, at best, proves to be full of shysters and liars. I won't go into how the estimate from the broker was nearly 100% off and I was told I had to pay $2000 more before they left with my stuff, after they had packed practically everything, knowing i had to be out of my house the next day, after delaying the moving day everyday for three days until the day before I had to be out of my house. I get one story about the delay from the movers, then the moving company tells me something else. The middle man between the broker and the moving company "Kevin/Karen" tells me one thing about the movers, then another less than 4 hours later. No one can keep the story straight. I'm convinced the broker, middle man, and moving company are all in cahootz with each other and they get away with it. May 1 and I still don't have my belonging, no call back, and no ETA.

  6. Worst Company Ever! Scammers/Extortion

If I could rate them -5 I would. Since this company took over my shipment from Tierney Van Lines in early January 2021 I was threatened, extorted for $850 by the actual movers out of CA, treated horribly by the movers and experienced property damages to my rental.

I have numerous missing items, destroyed items, items that do not belong to me, my rental property flooring was damaged by the movers and my claim is still pending today (3/23/2021). They have neither contacted me, inspected my property or returned any substantial missing items I claimed missing. Their company contacted me with less than 22 hours notice of delivery Jan 8,2021 although I had a solid date of delivery of set up Jan 11, 2021. The mover “Guy” called me and threatened to not deliver my shipment on Jan 9, 2021 if I was not present that morning at 8am but although I did they did not show up until after 10:30am and told me at that point I had to pay them (in cash) $850 for them to deliver my shipment (that is extortion). I was unable to reach their boss/Adam by phone or text (he ghosted me) and I am now forced to file a complaint with FMCSA. Never use this company for long distance moves or any move where you have to put your trust in them. They are not honorable. I have witnesses to everything, their calls (on speaker) and the actual extortion of cash. I have a receipt for the cash taken out to pay them just to deliver my shipment (which was not complete, most, if not all boxes and tubs had been opened and things repacked from their original packing) all my things were packed by Two Men and a Truck and put in a storage unit months prior to which I have pictures and video showing all contents. I received other people’s shipped items in my “opened” boxes and destroyed tubs. The movers showed up in a UHaul truck (I have pictures of that too) although they are a moving company with their own trucks. Nothing about this move went as planned once Mission Transportation in CA took receipt of my shipment. Movers beware of this company. I have been under stress since Jan 5, 2021 when they took over as my movers and I have had no peace since. My official grievance about this company will be filed because I do not believe they will honor my claim at all. Nobody answers their claim phones, returns voice messages or texts and they need to be put on notice for their illegal and immoral actions towards me and the other people (whose shipments were affected by these movers) who had shipments entangled with mine. I will never use another moving company again as I no longer trust them. What little I have left of my things after they left had substantial damages if not total losses. I have given Mission Transportation months to contact me now and they ignore my calls, texts, and messages. I am forced to file the formal grievance outside of their company and to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Commission against their company in hopes of receiving some type of compensation for their horrible services, damages to my and my landlords property and disdainful treatment. I called the police that morning and filed a report for theft and extortion (for them holding my shipment hostage, leaving with it and taking cash I did not owe them for delivery). Although they returned the damages were obviously done to my things. My deceased father’s military flag, medals and other items had been packed separately and placed securely into storage, I received his flag in the bottom of an opened, 1/2 full box with Tupperware all on top of the flag, the flag was dirty, desecrated in the bottom of that box, no medals or his other things were found. These movers went through my shipment and I know it just by how I received it. My boxes were professionally packed by Two Men and a Truck they were full, placed in a storage unit in Spokane WA pending my move. I had numerous tubs with books, DVDs, CDs and other personal items. Most I received were trashed beyond repair, things missing from them, some I did not even receive at all. Clearly all my things had been gone through, thrown about, stacked improperly to the point of being destroyed. I can never replace the majority of things I am missing because they were from my parents who are deceased now, things I had since the military, presents from military friends. Things I bought that were limited edition art. Irreplaceable items all. Before you sign any contracts to move your hone long distance find out what other company could be involved in your move,WARNING, if it is this company stay away from them! Go to someone else first.

  7. Best Choice by Far!!

I'm not a typical review person but I felt I should write a review for the BEST company in the moving business. I have heard horror stories about movers and was very nervous about hiring a mover but I couldn't handle a cross country move by myself. I contacted only a few companies and was very impressed with Mission Transportation. They had their estimator Allen come out to my home and he was very informative and he went through my house taking inventory and gave me a binding estimate in writing! I decided to trust them and I'm so glad I did. The men who packed up my house and loaded the truck were far better than I could have hoped for, very nice and careful with all of my belongings. It took about 2 weeks for my things to be delivered to North Carolina but they did tell me that to begin with so no surprises there. The delivery went well, I had only minor damage to a floor lamp and I just submitted my claim for it. I'm sure they will compensate me for their liability on it but it really isn't a big deal because most of my precious items were delivered just fine. These people did a great job, from the office staff to the workers!!

  8. Excellent Service

I went online to get some quotes to move out of state and was inundated with calls.  I decided to call back Mission Transportation because they weren't calling me obsessively like some of the other companies were and the message they left on my voicemail sounded professional.  I really felt at ease talking with Curt, he was very thorough when doing my inventory via Facetime.  He offered me a fair price so I gave them my business.  On the day of the move, Jonathan and his crew were AMAZING! They wrapped up everything so well, I was pleasantly surprised how well they put the blankets on my things, he even made a custom box for my TV.  I paid half of the bill at pick up.  Fast forward 1 week.  I just received the delivery, there were 2 men who delivered my stuff.  They brought everything into my new place, put the things where I asked them to, put my beds back together.  They did a good job too.  All in all I had a very pleasant experience with this company and would recommend them if you are moving out of state.

  9. No Delivery

Unfortunately, the company has far exceeded their guaranteed delivery date for my shipment, and I still have not received my goods. Customer service is not responsive. Mission Transportation is costing me and my family time and money, and I urge you caution when considering your move. Mission Transportation has been a nightmare for me.

  10. Absolutely Heartbreaking Experience

Complete crooks. My mother died suddenly of covid this summer. My father has never been alone, he's grieving terribly. He decided to move back to Colorado to be near his brother and my cousins. He got the quote from Mission Transportation and when they showed up, just as everyone below says, they changed the price to nearly double the quote. Same amount of things to be moved as quoted. Because he's grieving and doesn't want the hassle, he paid it. They drove away with his possessions in October. It's now nearly Christmas and my 67 year old father is sleeping on the floor of his new home. No winter clothes. No pots or pans or utensils. No furniture. No photos and memories of my mother. It's all on the truck. The truck that no one at this company can locate or tell us anything. This is NO WAY to treat people. This company is disgustingly bad at their job. But they take double the money. We are filing suit. My elderly father is sleeping on a floor at Christmas!

  11. Do NOT Use This Company.

Funny - I have read multiple reviews on here that sound pretty much the same as what I am about to say. Please take the time to read this.

I received a quote from Chris saying that our move would cost $2899. He assured me that this was a binding price based on the detailed inventory list that I provided. When the movers came they told me that there is no way we will get everything into the truck based on the quote. They told us they would stop when they reach 800 cubic feet and then we can assess. When the packers showed us the truck at 800 cubic feet, 90% of the items from the inventory list were not in the truck yet. After a long negotiation we agreed that the truck would be flat rated at $4500 and they would pack everything in our home.

Shortly before the packers were done they told us that they got a call from the boss that they had to stop because there was another job they needed to go to. So they left. We then had to find a way to move the rest of our stuff into a storage unit.

When I booked the company I stressed to them that our belongings need to be delivered by Friday or Saturday because my husband works in mining and only has certain days off. Ashley, Cindi and Chris assured me that this would not be a problem. I called a confirmed this many times. Friday morning I call Ashley and ask her about the time of delivery, this is where Adam gets involved and tells me that there were mechanical issues with the truck and it would only be Monday. I told them this is not possible. Eventually we agree on delivery for the following Friday.

Then the drama started for the remainder of our goods. I spoke to both Adam and Steve about this. They agreed to give us a $500 discount. Then Adam tells me that they will move our remaining stuff, after a long battle.

Today the delivery guys came to deliver our furniture. They knew nothing about the $500 off. They get Adam on the phone and Adam tells them no. Adam then calls me and starts yelling at me on the phone and blaming me for the shipment being late. He basically called me a liar, yelled and hung up the phone on me.

Needless to say..they are not moving the remainder of our furniture. Why? Because apparently this whole thing is my fault. Steve spoke to me like I was a total idiot and Adam was hostile on the phone, yet everything is my fault and no one in the company knows of anything.

Please do not use this company. They are scum, rude and will take your money. This was the worst experience ever.

If you are interested in a class action law suit let me know, seems like I am not the only one with the same type of story. This company needs to be stopped.

  12. Horrible experience!

My wife and I moved from California to Georgia in December (2019). We contacted several of the major moving companies (Allied, Mayflower, et al) and received a quote. We also wanted to get an estimate from a local company as well. So, we called Mission Transportation. Our first contact was Steve. We spoke to him at length asking several questions about the companys.

We scheduled a time for someone (Alan) to come out and give us a quote. The quote was much lower than any of the other companies. We explained that we wanted to do some additional research before committing. Our research turned up several scathing reviews.

We let Alan know we were uncomfortable doing business with them. It was at that point that Adam (owner?) called and asked that we give Mission a chance. He said that he would personally oversee our journey. He acknowledged the bad reviews and said they were making changes to make things better.

After calling a few other companies, we contacted Alan again and asked that he review his original quote. Alan assured us that his quote was accurate and that he stood behind it 100%.

Moving day came. The gentlemen who loaded the truck were fabulous and said that Mission was a great company and would take care of us. Unfortunately, this was not our experience.

In the middle of packing the truck, we were told they had reached the quoted footage and anything additional would increase the price. By the time the truck was loaded, the cost had more than doubled.

We paid what we were originally quoted, refused to sign the new quote and let them know that we would speak with Steve and Adam before agreeing to pay any more.

Next, we were told that our stuff would be taken to a warehouse in San Diego to be transferred to another truck for the trip across the country. Both Adam and Steve knew that we were closing on our new house the following week (8 days later) and assured us that our stuff would be there within a few days of our closing. We were told that once our stuff was in transit, we would receive regular updates on the progress of the move.

When we called later in the week to find out how things were going, we were told by Steve that our stuff was still in San Diego until they were sure that our house would close on time?!

We explained to Steve and later to Adam that it was none of their concern when our house closed. The onus was on us to ensure everything was set up on our end. At that point, their story began to change. We were told that the truck that was originally scheduled to bring our stuff out had left (because Steve and Adam decided to hold our load back because they were waiting for our closing), and we would have to wait for the next truck to come out.

Meanwhile, we were trying to have a conversation with Steve and Adam regarding the insane increase in our costs. Steve called me at one point and said that he had worked very hard to reduce our total cost by $500 - $700. I explained that barely one-eighth of the upcharge we saw when the truck was loaded let alone the total costs.

Fast forward to December 24th..six days after we took possession of our house. The moving truck pulled into our drive a little past 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Before they would unload the truck, they required payment of the remaining balance. When we refused, they said they would not be able to unload our stuff. Once again, we were backed into a corner. After a heated discussion with Adam, we reluctantly paid.

Even after we had our stuff in our house, the torment continued. We had a $6000 Sleep Number bed that was not reassembled correctly and was missing the $1000 topper that went with it.

We slowly began to unpack finding most of what we were looking for initially. However, we did notice that one box of our electronics and nicknacks was missing.

A few weeks later, we received a notice that someone had purchased something on our PS4. We tracked the purchase back to the driver of the truck! Upon confronting him, he barely attempted to deny that he had taken it. We called Adam who was very apologetic and wanted to make it right.

We gave them the opportunity to make it right. We agreed upon the $500 to replace the PS4 and ask for a reimbursement for the mattress as well. We are still waiting.

As a side note, we have been in contact with another one of their customers whose stuff was on that same truck. Their experience was almost as bad. Fortunately, miraculously they did not get screwed out of $5000+.

We have filed a police report for the PS4 against the driver of the truck. Unfortunately, it is difficult to know where the crime actually took place; so, the best we could do is get his name on record as a thief.

We are currently in the process of filing a suit against Mission in small claims court in California. We welcome anyone who would like to join us in ensuring that no one else has to go through this horrible experience.

  13. Recent move.

Update : had a minor claim aNd received payment on this in a reasonable timeframe ! Thanks again ! I have dealt with many , many , MANY movers in the past . Most of whom only care about their own bottom line and not the overall

Wellbeing of their clients . I have to say that everyone at mission is not that way ! I understand that there are many moving parts to a cross country interstate move. From the sales department , operations , movers, drivers at pick up and drivers at delivery . Lots of hands are involved ! It makes sense that at some point down the line there can be an issue somewhere , but this company handles every problem with ease and integrity . Always thinking about the satisfaction of the client . I must say this is very rare to find !!

  14. Service review.

I recently moved from San Diego

    To Las Vegas.

    When I selected Mission Movers

And talked to Cindy she was great.

We had alot of stuff and it required picking up at several locations.

Mission handled it professionally and on time.

All our things arrived in Las Vegas on the same day that we were moving in..

    Great job!!

  15. Scam!! Don't Use These Guys!

These guys will "lose" or damage your property. They will pretend that you have a fixed quote but once they pick up your belongings they will increase their fee. They have zero integrity or care to provide customer service. STAY AWAY!
