  1. Metro Van Lines..run Away!! Scam Artists.

On 4/30/2012, Metro Van Lines performed a moved for me from my home to  a private Storage Unit. Unfortunately, I was over charged for your service. Metro Van Lines did not perform the service well because several items were left behind and unpacked. In addition, after unpacking my items I found several broken dishes and damaged furniture. Furthermore, I did not receive the $50 discount I was promise and I also was charged twice for the $1350 transaction. This resulted in two 3% convenience fees since I paid with a credit card.
Initially I was given an estimate to move a two bedroom apartment a total time of 4 hours and a cost of $900. This is detailed on invoice W655760. I was told by the representative Tracey that the quote included 4 hours of labor, all packing materials, 1 free month of storage, fuel, disassemble, reassemble and second stop. I was also promised and an additional discount of $50.00 for early booking which is included in invoice W655760 created on 3/21/12.
Once my goods were loaded on the truck I was informed by the movers that my total would come to $1350.50 and if I did not pay they would put my things on the street. When talking to the sales rep while the movers were still in the apartment she admitted to quoting us wrong and said if we wanted to make it cost less we should get up and help load and unload ourselves. First the foreman told us to pay for 7 hours totaling $884.00 after the $150.00 deposit. After getting in my car to run an errand the manager called and told me it would be an additional $464.00 or they would throw my things on the street. So I agreed to pay the $464.00(Which included a second 3% convenience fee)
I was billed a total of 9 hour during which one hour they did not work at all. This was while I tried to get the bill settled.
Please avoid this company at all costs. This was the worst moving experience of my life!!

  2. Do Not Use Ever!!

They hook you up with a low price and end up charging you way more than expected. Movers try to use packing material they don't even need in order to charge more.
Trying to dispute a charge, the secretary was very impolite, the manager was all of a sudden not there for several days. The operator would not lat me talk to the person who initially sent me the contract, she even hung up on me when she realized it's me calling again for the charge dispute. They even did not respond to a complaint I filed with the business bureau.

Customer service is very low after they get your money, maybe a little better before on order to get you in.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY EVER!!

  3. Walked out on my after outrageous charge, THEN CHARGED my credit card $300!!

On Fri. June 3, 2011, Metro Van Lines first arrived to my apartment stating they couldn't find the loading dock. I told them exactly where the dock was, but then the driver stated to me on the phone "Good luck with your move. Have a nice day." then hung up. I immediately called the company to complain, only to be spoken to by a very nasty and unprofessional woman who would not give me her name. I sent my family member downstairs to the dock, and when my family memeber went down to meet them before they left, they were making a U-turn IN THE LOADING DOCK so they could leave. Originally, I was told by the company my total move cost would be $365. I put a down payment over the phone with my credit card of $73 which is equal to one hours work, then I was left with a balance of $292. I received an email and telephone confirmation of this amount. I even called two days later to confirm the price of $292. After my cousin met the movers at the loading dock, the movers came into my apartment and stated some items needed to be wrapped, such as the sofa and love seat, mattresses, etc. I started signing some papers with him and then he told me my NEW total was roughly $987. Immediately I stated I could not afford to pay that and to please get someone on the phone at the company so I can speak with them about this outrageous amount. He then called the company and told them I wanted to cancel. I told him I NEVER said I was cancelling, I only wanted clarification on the amount he was quoting me and I wanted to talk about the amount I was told I had to pay, which was $292. The mover then told me again to "have a nice day" then walked out. I followed him down the hall trying to figure out what was going on, trying to understand why they were leaving, and demanding the papers back that had my signature. He refused to give me my papers, but we took the papers out his hand and we had to call the police because he refused to give me the carbon copy of my credit card. When I got back inside, I checked my bank account and they had ALREADY charged my credit card $300. I called the company and they stated they charged me a cancellation fee, when I never cancelled, then the woman hung up on me. After several calls by myself and my family, they were also hung up on as well. I am currently disputing this charge with my credit union.

  4. Terrible Service!!

Please do NOT use this company!! Buyer beware!! We were quoted a price of $700 for a move 10 minutes away. When they finished, they nickel and dime you for everything. The total price was $2181.00!! When we checked the itemized statement, when were charged over $1000 for packing equipment. They even used tape on many of the boxes we already taped securely. When we called the company, they were rude and condescending. On top of that, we made arrangements to pay, and they totally ignored the arrangements and submitted the credit card statement ASAP. Again we called the company to figure out what happened and they continued to be rude and ignorant. Please do NOT use this comapny unless you just want to be treated subhuman and lose money on top of money!! Things were broken and damaged to top it off. One would think that $1000 worth of packing material would have kept our things in tact.

  5. Scam!!

I was quoted a price of $750 after giving an acurate account of my items to be moved. The day of the move my moving representative starting in adding in "packing charges" and I was charged $2079. These charges were not included in my estimate. They charges my $90 alone in tape. The movers also broke a halogen lamp. The movers also left 15 minutes before the time they had me sign them out for and my moving representative stood over me and requested I fill out a review. He also suggested I give him a 20% tip on the increased rate.

  6. Scamming Company With Three Names.

So we hired metro van lines, they quoted us low over the phone for 834.00 and when they came and packed up most of our stuff except the kitchen they changed the quote (which is ILLEGAL) to 1503.00. When we called the company the ladies were nasty, scummy and shameful. They admitted to quoting us wrong and said if we wanted to make it cost less we should get up and help load and unload ourselves. Which we were already doing. They also said if we didnt' like it they could stop it right there unload the truck at the old place and charge us the money anyways. With a little research (too late) I found out that this company has an F rating and is revoked on the better business bureau website. 56 complaints in the last 36 months. Pathetic I know. Even though they still advertise that they are proud members of the BBB on their .org website. I have read many many people with the same story as mine. They are LIARS AND FRAUDS. They operate under the aliases Metro Van Lines,Personal Touch Movers, and Best time movers. DO NOT USE THESE COMPANIES THEY WILL SCAM YOU.

  7. Complete Scam.

We hired Personal Touch Moving and Transport out of Rockville, Maryland based on a clean BBB report and no hits on the internet indicating a problem. The quoted cost was fair ($760) for our small move of one-half mile.

On the day of the move, the company which showed up was Metro Van Lines, also out of Rockville, Maryland.

As we needed to move on that day, we did not consider this a problem as the driver indicated the two companies worked closely. The driver assured us the move would be without difficulty.

As the movers began loading the truck, we began to have an uneasy feeling that something was not correct. I inquired as to the cost of the move, I wanted to make sure the cost was consistent with the quoted cost of $760. The driver would not give a firm answer, continually delaying until he had loaded as much as possible onto his truck.

Evenutally, I did stop the guy from loading anything further until I received assurances about the cost. He finally gave a final price, which was over $2,200. The majority of the costs were $1,200 for "packing material". Later I compared the actual material used to retail prices from local moving companies and I had a hard time arriving at a total cost of more than $150, retail.

Once he had my HHGs, much of it but not all, on the truck, the driver said he would be happy to unload the truck. I inquired as to the cost if he unloaded the truck and he said, without shame, $2,200.

The driver would not remove the HHG from the truck or deliver the HHG to the new address until I gave him a valid credit card. He also indicated if we did not provide the card at that moment he would simply drive away. That did not seem realistic since I have no doubt the company would have added exhorbitant storage fees which would have simply compounded the problem.

Under the circumstances, I had the driver deliver the loaded HHG to the new address. As we had stopped the driver from loading anything further, much of our HHGs, which were included in the quote, were not moved. My husband and I spent two miserable days moving the HHG ourselves.

I believe Personal Touch may be a web-site used by Metro Van Lines to disquise the true company and hide the many poor internet reviews about Metro. I visited Personal Touch address and found it to be an office building. I did not see any moving assets, such as a truck.

I would strongly recommend potential customers simply avoid either of these companies at all cost.
