  1. Be careful of promises made during sales pitch

    Worst Customer Service I have ever received. This company is a joke, can't even live up to their word that was given.

    Moving from CA. to TX., was looking for a smooth move with a reasonable delivery window. I have moved long distance a few other times and have never had any issues like these.

    I called and spoke with Bobby Nazari and explained to him what I needed. He was very helpful and had told me that if I have my stuff picked up between 11/10-11/12, the delivery would happen within 5-10 days after pickup. He assured me that this is a route (CA-TX) the company travels often and that a quick delivery would not be a problem.

    Movers showed up on the 11/12, loaded my stuff, they were nice/professional.

    November 24, Wednesday I call Jesse Heeber, the Ops Mgr. I ask him for a time when my stuff would be delivered since it was nearing the 10 day window. He told me that my stuff is still in CA, that days on the contract are actually business days and that puts my move to be delivered sometime in December, usually within 14 business days.

    Yesterday was business day 14 so I reached out to Jesse and silence is all I get. I reached back out to my salesperson, who when selling me the contract was over the top helpful, and he TEXTED me to contact Jesse (again no one at this company seems to know how to use a phone)...When I explained to him that I had already tried that route and would appreciate any help from him, he goes silent.

    I didn't hesitate to pay up to use these movers based on the sales pitch that was given to about the quick turnaround for delivery. I also had my car shipped (from a different company) and that arrived within a week, so I ask why can't my belongings happen in the same amount of time. I am now beginning to realize that the sales pitch was just being used to close the deal and once they get your items you are at their mercy as to when they will be delivered. Anytime I call I get directed to an operator, who is pleasant, but cannot help me in anyway except to say my message will be passed on to someone??? Every time I call and ask to speak to a MGR or Supervisor, I just get the run around and brush off or they tell me to go through Jesse Heeber. Which is obviously not working. No one at this company wants to help me resolve my issue, everyone wants to pass the buck and the buck ultimately stops at Jesse Heeber's desk and won't be escalated any further. I never get a call from a live person, only a generic email stating I will receive a call 24 hours prior to delivery.

    I was originally going to get a U HAUL truck and move everything myself but after speaking with Bobby Nazari, I trusted and had faith that Shleppers would do an honest job. BOY, was I wrong.

    Final comment: I received my items on day 37 and of course more surprises came along with the drop off. The driver who was to deliver the items began the conversation right away with “you know we will have to get a shuttle truck which will be $400 more and then there will probably a long haul charge”. I tried to contact Jesse and of course no answer. He did finally email me stating that it is common to have these charges added on to the delivery which then I asked why my salesperson (Booby) didn’t explain that in his sales pitch. Also interesting that the payment was made by sending it through Zelle directly to the driver which he claimed he did not receive any of that money???

    Please do your research extensively, ask lots of questions and get your answers in writing, and read the fine print because chances are the charges listed there will probably be added on to your bill.

    I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

    I will never recommend this company; this company is the worst when it comes to customer service. This company is a joke, I would stay far away from this company.

    Please do extensive research before contracting with this company, especially if you are doing a long distance move.

  2. Recommending Shleppers

    Shleppers has office staff who are exceptionally responsive, and teams of packers and movers who are pleasant and professional on every level. The flexibility that this business offers is remarkable -- I needed to change my moving date 4 times in 2 months, and they could not have been more gracious or understanding. Having the first month of storage free gave both them and me greater flexibility when it came to delivery, as well.

    I sought a moving company that would offer personalized service at a competitive price, and they exceeded my expectations. Ihired Shleppers because of a friend's recommendation, and am pleased to confirm their value.

  3. Worst Moving Experience ever

    We have moved cross country multiple times and never once had an experience like the one we experienced with Shleppers. They overcharged us, destroyed precious family heirlooms and then refused to do much as take our calls after the fact. I am horrified by their lack of professionalism.

  4. TERRIBLE Experience

    I have moved internationally over nine times and can easily say this is the worst inexperienced movers I have come across.

    To start, their crew were mainly loaders not packers, they did not know how to handle sensitive items or delicate furniture, the first thing they did was negotiate their tips. I paid over TWENTY THOUSAND Dollars for Professional packing and care, and what I got instead was a terrible job and bad attitude.

    The did not only break our irreplaceable china items, but they also scratched/broke my unique furniture, paintings, lamp shades and valuables. I had to guide their inexperienced crew on how to wrap and pack items and provided them with warping foam and wood packing crates to protect my items, yet the result was a disaster. To pain to injury, the crew members insisted on their negotiated tip and the company claimed that they needed a bigger truck as the volume was larger than what they anticipated and asked for an extra amount of $1,650 on top what they received already. I was obliged to pay to release my shipment. When we received the shipment, I shocked to see that they sent the wooden crates which I provided them for protection of my items EMPTY, we also received two boxes which belonged to another client and had missing items which they stated they could not locate.

    I sent them over 30 pictures of the broken/damaged items and their customer care person asked me to contact the insurance company as they could not help. No apologies No regrets but simply a careless attitude.

    We are literally in pain seeing our valuable which we owned for over 25 years and have been moving with them from country to country DAMAGED.

    I will NEVER RECOMMED Shleppers

  5. Surprise price hike mid-move + broken sofa

    I picked Shleppers because I'd had a good experience with them in 2013, but this was like a completely different company. Will never use them again and strongly advise against it. I paid extra because they offered a live video estimate using FaceTime, unlike other movers who would've required me to do my own detailed inventory, including counting all the boxes after they're packed, which is difficult if you need to book ahead of time and can't live out of a suitcase for 2 weeks. They showed up, started complaining that the estimate was inaccurate, and I agreed that they should call headquarters. Then, they started the move, half-loaded the truck, and declared that I would have to pay 25% more in order to finish the move! Of course I was over a barrel at this point – I thought I was paying their higher prices to avoid this situation! On top of that, they put a big hole in a leather sofa and offered my $35 to replace it, since I hadn't paid even MORE money. No better than the worst of NYC movers.

  6. Absolutely perfect!

    The team was professional and efficient, and the job was done right, and well ahead of schedule. Would absolutely use them again!

  7. Upcharge after moving half empty boxes

    Schleppers' quote was reasonable. When they came to our apartment to pack our belongings they were rushing and rather than packing each box with items from one closet or area they shoved everything in together in a mishmash. The movers also got into a fight with our building super over the fact that they refused to share the elevator and got themselves kicked out of the building so I had to finish taking the boxes out of my apartment myself. Fortunately this was late in the day so I only had about 20 boxes to move myself.

    When they were almost to my new house they called to say they needed to charge me an extra $750 because they had used extra boxes. It was only after they left that I realized that many of the boxes were MOSTLY EMPTY so they used up extra boxes just to generate an extra charge!

    When I confronted the management about this they refused to do anything about it. They make extra profit by this corrupt practice so I'm sure they are incentivized to keep it up.

    BEWARE THEIR EXTRA CHARGES!!!

  8. Local NYC Move

    The Schleppers team is as good as it gets. Nick Rodriguez was upfront with pricing and worked with us right up until the day of our move to allow for adjustments - even if you don't have a perfect running inventory of your household contents, they are able to work with you to avoid surprise charges and ensure that nothing gets left behind. In addition, they took care of all arrangements with our new building and their strict moving policies - even seeing to it that Building Management had all required Certificates of Insurance on file ahead of our move-in date. Our crew of Sean Rodriguez, George and Abdellah were professional, courteous and friendly at all times and treated our belongings as if they were their own. My advice is to take as much stress out of moving day as possible and book with Schleppers ASAP!

    My family and I have used Shleppers for more than 2 dozen moves over the years. WE are always impressed by the professional manner the movers do their job. Always polite and careful in moving our furniture. I highly recommend!!

  10. Find a Different Mover!

    I had a terrible experience with Schleppers and was shocked by the company's dishonestly and lack of transparency. We contacted Schleppers about 30 days before our move and were in constant contact with them until the day of the move. We wanted to make sure everything was covered, as it was a busy moving season. About 10 days before the move, we asked about shifting the move by one day. Our coordinator actually told us that day was less busy, so our total would be less than the agreed-upon price. To our dismay, on the day of the move, the movers showed up with a bill for $1,100 MORE than the original price. We were certain there was some kind of mix-up, and it would be easy to get reimbursed for the difference. Sure enough, the Schleppers management team was a complete nightmare and refused to admit any wrongdoing, as did our coordinator. This company has no integrity, and they will promise you the world until they pull the rug out from under you when it's too late to find a different mover. Avoid Schleppers at all costs.

  11. Avoid this company

    I've moved across oceans three times and never had a problem. I had more problems moving across town with Schleppers than moving 3500+ miles. I've raised concerns directly to the co-owners of the company, who have not substantively responded. After several months of no progress, I write this review.

    Suggestions if you do choose Schleppers: do not sign ANY paperwork until the move is complete. Insist on an actual walk-through by their estimator, not a phone consultation, so they cannot upcharge you later. Do not tip until the move is fully complete. Check that all garbage has been removed from the building so you are not fined by your building. Put anything of even small value aside such that it cannot be slipped into a mover's personal knapsack. Insist on tape that does not leave marks on furniture. Do not expect a fair settlement if anything is broken or damaged.

  12. Apartment Move

    Used them to move within my apartment building. Not complicated.

    They caused thousands of dollars of damage to our grand piano by dropping it and then concealed what they had done. After promising to address the problem, they refused to make payment and cut off contact. We have been forced to sue them. Any company can move furniture. The worth of the mover is how they react when something goes wrong. Awful customer service and dishonest management. DO NOT TRUST THEM.

    Shleppers are the perfect company for moving. The guys were very professional and very careful. I would recommend them to anyone and I definitely will hire them again

  14. Easy and Efficient Move

    We hired Shleppers for a small move in December from a 1 bedroom into a storage unit. They arrived on time, followed all safety protocols and were very efficient. The company also called during our move to ensure that everything was going well.

    There were a few questions regarding the list of items to be packed from the estimate but all was resolved quickly and without issue.

    They did an excellent job!

  15. WARNING: DO NOT HIRE SHLEPPER’S MOVING & STORAGE!!!

    I hired Shleppers to pack and move me in November of 2020—a residential move in Manhattan. It was an unmitigated DISASTER from start to finish—with multiple damages to furniture, improper packing, missing items, lack of safety protocols during the move, as well as irresponsibility and dishonesty from the moving crew, and a complete lack of customer service.

    It was a nightmare move, and here are 5 reasons why:

    1. MULTIPLE MISSING ITEMS: Some items simply did not make it from the moving truck into my new apartment, including a folding step stool and three rugs (worth a total of $265). I might be able to chalk that up to a moving mistake, BUT two days later, I realized that 3 framed pieces of art valued at a total exceeding $20,000 were also missing. (These pieces were eventually located over 5 days later, one by one, by the foreman. They were miraculously found on the truck, which had allegedly been emptied and inspected by him right after the move).

    2. EXTENSIVE DAMAGES: The crew was incredibly reckless. Not only did they break the leg of a $6000 Design Within Reach sofa, but they left it in the basement (it was unable to fit in the freight elevator) and never told me what had happened. They simply duct taped the leg on! A second Shleppers crew (that I had to pay extra for) came the next day to carry the sofa up to my apartment, and they discovered that the leg had been snapped in two. Shleppers did send a carpenter to repair the leg, which entailed super-gluing and drilling screws into it. It’s unclear how long this peg leg will hold up, and it looks like hell.

    The crew carelessly moved an armoire and dropped it on a custom built desk, creating large divots in the wood. They removed wooden knobs from a credenza and lost them. They did not properly pack a Design Within Reach floor lamp (neither removing the lamp shade nor the lightbulbs!) before transporting it. I watched that lamp tumble onto Riverside Drive! Another vintage 1950s lamp shade that was never removed from the lamp or packed at all, is now it is completely bent and lopsided.

    3. IRRESPONSIBLE PACKING: Extremely valuable glass and bone china items were put into boxes with no wrapping or protection whatsoever. Two vintage glass globe lights were tossed in a box on top of a printer and had another lamp and a small end table placed on top of them with no protection whatsoever! Even though I reiterated multiple times that all these items were very fragile, they were not even wrapped in paper or bubble wrap.

    4. LACK OF CONCERN FOR SAFETY PROTOCOLS: We are in the middle of a global pandemic and I expected that everyone on the crew would take their safety and mine very seriously. One individual on the crew did not wear a mask. In addition, this employee was agitated and rude throughout the move, at one point yelling at me while I was discussing something with the foreman. The super at my new address actually told him not to come back into the building because he was yelling and cursing.

    5. ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE: When you call Shleppers, you will get the Dispatching Dept. When you are transferred to Customer Service, you will eventually talk to a Claims Representative. There is no real “customer service” at all. I called Shleppers on the day that I realized that art was missing, in the desperate hope that they could recover the lost property as soon as possible. The “customer service” and the “operations/dispatch” representatives (same thing) were unresponsive. There was no attempt to look for the lost valuables, or check the picture bins they were packed in. There was no sense of urgency at all. In fact, I was told that the moving truck had been completely emptied and inspected by the foreman of the moving crew, and that the “empty” picture boxes had been flattened. Having been told by dispatch that they could do nothing, and getting no response whatsoever from the nonexistent customer service department, I emailed the co-CEO and owner, who did reply within 24 hours—but with a form email that said I should contact someone at customer service!

    I filed an insurance claim with Shleppers (a weeks-long, nickel-and-diming ordeal), and their settlement was so paltry and insulting that I refused to sign the claims waiver (stating that I would not post anything disparaging or negative about the company) in order to get the money. THIS IS THE WORST MOVING COMPANY I’VE EVER USED.
