  1. Residential moving

We ordered Metropolitan Movers for residential moving. Nothing special: packing services, loading, and unloading, delivery right to the house. I don’t know what is good or bad in the moving industry, but I got a quick response and a team of skilled movers. They simply did all the time-consuming tasks for us, there is nothing to complain about. Metropolitan Movers are surely a good choice for ordinary people, they support you at any step and offer an honest price.

  2. Really careful and efficient movers

Responsible helpers and drivers will take care of the properties. We had plenty of unique items from my grandma and heavy furniture to deliver to the new house. The managers listened to all our demands and created a plan for transportation. We used special containers, wardrobe and tv boxes, and provided protection with the blankets. Nothing could happen with such an approach, but we also were guaranteed full insurance coverage. That’s what I call customer service, thank you!

  3. Worst move of my life

This move happened back at the end of August, but I'm writing this review now since my partner already wrote his own and I wanted to add my own take.

So first off, we hired Metropolitan Movers, but they - without our knowledge - hired two unprepared guys from Maple Green Moving instead.

Day of, two guys show up who are very obviously stoned out of their minds - especially the one. The one guy in the first half of the move was completely incompetent, spending most of his time standing around looking to the other guy to be told what to do. We kept telling them what NOT to move (since we lived with my sister at the time, we obviously didn't want to take her things too) and they kept forgetting even though we JUST told them less than 5 minutes prior. We had to run out to the truck and retrieve some of her stuff from them. This happened TWICE.

The move itself took WAY longer than it should have, and that's partly because of the movers themselves that were hired. My partner himself started helping them and acted as the third mover - and he legitimately was far more competent than the two of them.

Just before we leave, My partner's old desk had broken (not the mover's fault, it was already falling apart) so we asked if we could dispose of it at our new place since our new place offered an area for dumped furniture. Instead of listening to us, they took it and dumped it at our current building which was NOT allowed. Because my partner was caught on camera standing by the truck while they did that, our building manager came after us afterwards and threatened my partner with charges if the landlord saw fit after seeing him on the camera.

After that hell, we finally start heading over to our new place. (which is about 10-15 minutes down the road, by the way) The movers head out first, and my partner and I order an uber. We both get there 10-15 minutes before they do... When they did get here, my partner said he saw them just chilling in the truck having a smoke - probably getting high again since they burnt out after taking so long just to put our things into a truck. ? They were at the very least smoking a joint BEFORE heading off to the new apartment - My partner witnessed this, and we know it was marijuana because they commented on it. Not only getting high on the job, but also getting high and driving. Cool.

First person to bring something into our new place is - shocker - my partner! With a whole loveseat, by himself. He hustled SO hard, constantly back and forth with boxes, furniture, etc. One of the guys started helping more, while the other started taking it easy and was just (very slowly) taking furniture and boxes out of the truck while my partner and the other guy did most of the work.

During this painful process the new door got scratched up quite a bit and the floors were scuffed and filthy. Some of the furniture ended up chipped in several spots and scratched up - especially our freezer - which we did list prior as an appliance, and now sits off balance because an entire foot is missing. By the time everything was done it had been approx 6 hours. Our total came to $800... Then when my partner signed the papers for payment he noticed they were a completely different company? They mentioned they were something like a side branch that were contracted - "Maple Green Moving and Logistics", and that they were told they were just doing a "student move", which definitely wasn't the case. I should also mention that they nearly left with several pieces of furniture of ours and thankfully we realized last second before they took off. They also left us with a couple bags of straight up GARBAGE from their truck that was likely never cleaned out from a previous move. I'm sure they didn't know but it's still disgusting and inexcusable.

Time skip to recently where my partner and I expressed our upset with our movers to several family and friends who all told us to try to get some money back as compensation. My partner called Metropolitan Movers MANY times, and after a while they NEVER answered him. Initially when he filed a complaint they said they'd get back to him in 10-14 days (why does it take that long?) so we waited, but nothing happened well after 14 days. We called again a few more times. We realized they blocked his number or just purposefully ignored it and refused to deal with our case, and we know this because immediately after calling from his phone with no answer, he called with mine and they picked up. He was told he'd be called back tomorrow morning (today) and to no one's surprise, there was no call. This was the worst move I've ever had in my life, and I've moved many times. This experience was an absolute nightmare. You'd be better off asking complete strangers off the street for help.

  4. Inner City move.

We picked Metropolitan because online reviews were for the most part, mostly positive. However, our experience did not translate into a flawless experience! Having booked a month in advance, they were two hours late in spite of a contract that said only one hour buffer..their treatment of our possessions was somewhat reckless (broken pieces); their lateness created a domino effect so that previously reserved service elevators didn’t fit the timeline, therefore increasing moving time; all around a small move(within 30 km) that should have been trouble free. From a one bedroom condo, to an elderly residence, no appliances, still ended up with extra charges. We would say they were unreliable and lacked a professional treatment that would be expected of this reputable Company. I would not use this company again.

  5. Don't be Fooled by High Rating.

We booked our moving with Metropolitan Movers because of the rating they were given. What a mistake that was. It appears that they function more as "brokers" than movers. They hired a couple of movers in London, ON, Maplegreen Moving, who couldn't have been less prepared if we had hired them off the street. Let me list just some of the problems we encountered. Took 8 hours to move from one two bedroom apartment to another two bedroom apartment which was only 7 minutes drive between units. They didn't have enough tools or blankets to handle the few furniture that we needed moved. They said they were not informed that they needed to move our stove. We can't find a box of items that they were supposed to move. They handled our large marked boxes "fragile" as if they were cargo. ..didn't have the right tools to dismantle furniture (we had to let them use ours) They marked walls in both units when moving furniture. They were wasting time talking about unrelated things. Shall I go on. Discussing service at a large price of $109 an hour plus truck ($109). Spend your money somewhere else..less of a headache for us seniors.

  6. Innisfil Local Moving of my 4 bedrooms.

The guys were on-time ,polite and did all I asked for

Will recommend to my family and friends .

The pricing was fair and transparent and the movers really hustled for the final stretch to fit my move into the 8-hour time frame which was much appreciated! They were so transparent about their pricing.

  7. Very slow=very expensive.

Backstory got moved from Warden and Sheppard to Burlington storage unit by another moving company it took three hours cost $500. These guys were busy so we had to go with different Movers I phoned Hamilton movers and I think they sub it to Metropolitan Movers, they call me the night before and say between 9 and 9:30 a.m. we get down there before 9 and they don't show up until 10:15, they brought a large truck for some reason even though I told them it was a 20 by 10 storage locker and the truck has a lift system on the back so they would stack everything on the lift system and then it would slowly bring everything up to the truck these guys were in no rush whatsoever, but since we were just going from Burlington to Hamilton into our new house I thought there's no way they're going to be more than 3 hours but sure enough the bill ends up being $835 even though another moving company only charge us $500 to go three times the distance with the same amount of stuff . these guys are very slow and don't speak English. It was very stupid and im just glad its over It's just too bad they act like this is how it is, but its not if you want repeat business. 100% don't hire Metropolitan Movers or Hamilton Movers.

  8. Moving my home to Vaughan.

I highly recommend this moving company. Right from the first phone call until the movers finished their work, I was pleased with everyone I had contact with.

The reminder call the day before was helpful as was the question about wardrobe boxes as I had forgotten to request these. The “wake up” call an hour before arrival is a great idea.

The gentlemen who arrived were friendly and efficient. They were courteous and polite. They did an excellent job moving us from one city to the next.

I have no hesitation to recommend this company.

  9. Condo Move Into Storage.

I am extremely happy with the quality and the convenience of the service that MetropolitanMovers has provided. I had sent a message through their website and got a call real quick, the girl on the phone was very nice and knowledgable, she was able to answer all my questions. The team members who actually moved my stuff were very kind and very helpful. Clean, quick, and fun. Overall, it was affordable, easy, and flexible, and super quick. I will definitely use their services again.

  10. Terrible Movers.

Staff were very nice and were on time. Coordinator was also very available. Other than that, I wish I could say something positive about this company. Excruciatingly slow. Packers did not communicate with movers, causing so much delay. Terrible packing. I had to tell them to wrap everything and to write down content/room on each box. Movers fought in public. OMG so slow. Almost seemed like the movers did not want to work. No masks. No floor covering. We paid $2500 and honestly this move was not worth more than $1000. So much time wastage and zero accountability. On purpose they would go 1 or 2 minutes over the hour and charge an extra 1/2 hour. Just terrible. Do yourself a favour and call any other company. Can't see how a moving company can get any worse.

  11. Awful, non-existent communication or care for customers.

SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND ANXIETY OF USING THIS SERVICE. I've moved around my entire life and I've never worked with such an abysmal moving service with non-existent communication with their customers. My anxiety was through the roof with my local coordinator's indifference to providing me info or following up with me.

    - The movers DIDN’T SHOW UP when they were scheduled; the coordinator (Gary) offered no apologies for this when I called asking where they were. He said he’ll call the drivers – I waited about half an hour and he never called back, so I called asking for an update. He said he left them a message (I honestly don’t know what the expectation was here; I suppose he expected I wait around). He then sent me the drivers’ numbers and told me to contact them myself because apparently that's my job, not his?). I rescheduled for the next day and when they arrived, the driver showed me a text message when they were told about my job - which was right after I called asking why they weren't here the previous day.

    - I was NEVER TOLD about a deposit I had to pay; I was told AFTER it was already processed.

    - When the movers were done, I asked them about next steps, and they said I needed to call Metropolitan Movers as they knew nothing. I did, asking what to expect next; they told me the local coordinator will call me. 5 hours after my things were picked up, I still heard nothing – so I called Gary, asking for next steps, arrival info – he told ME to follow up with HIM (as opposed to the other way around, because again, apparently that's not his job) in a week for a narrowed range.

    - I followed up as instructed in a week and Gary was still unprepared. He said he’d call the driver and get back to me. I followed up again as I heard nothing from him, and finally got a “between 27th to the 31st” range.

    - I still hadn't heard anything on the 27th. I called Gary a few times around this time range and even up to the day the movers arrived, he went completely MIA - I never heard from him.

For comparison, I worked with several services at the same time – I ordered furniture from different vendors, coordinating with my new building manager, and a furniture donation organization. These services followed up with me, called/sent me a message when they were on the way, and followed up to close things off after. All these services went smoothly and I wasn’t getting anything close to this with Metropolitan Movers and they were 90% of why my move was extremely stressful. The profoundly awful communication made it incredibly difficult to coordinate ANYTHING on my end - when I should move out of my temporary housing, what I should tell my building coordinator about my move-in..

The local coordinator Gary obviously didn’t give a crap about my move, hence why he completely disappeared on me. Even calling "head office", their answer was always the same: "I'll tell Gary to call you" and never did. It was difficult getting "head office" to even pick up. They never took the initiative to ever follow up at any point during the process – no follow-ups to provide basic info, updates, or what to expect.

Friends, peers, and colleagues were appalled every time I gave them an update that I had no update and there was no effort at all in keeping me informed. Just so, so awful.

  12. 2 bedrooms, 8 hours have not been completed.

It was a terrible experience. They still didn't finish their work until 7pm. 2 porters, from a 2 bedroom apartment to a townhouse. 15 minutes drive. After 8 hours, it was still not completed. I told them to stop.

  13. Scam company.

Had to cancel our move and they tried to charge me a penalty fee for 2 trucks 320$ each + tax. This was one weeks notice of cancellation. Then he said I will get charged for one truck and apparently a recording of me agreeing to this which I did not. I also reviewed the contract which does not state any specific day for cancellation. He says over the phone cancellation is a minimum of 7 days notice which is exactly how many I gave him and still said they are charging my card (I gave them over the phone for the deposit). When I called back later they “offered me a 200$ penalty fee”. Every other mover is 48 hour notice. This company just scams people out of money after getting their credit card info.

  14. 100% Scam.

    They deserve a ZERO.

I thought I hired a company called Two Men with a moving truck in Toronto. Now I know the legal name is Metropolitan Movers. I have never been so upset over a move in my entire life.
I have moved in and out of over 5 apartments/houses in the last 10 years and have NEVER experienced a move so frustrating, unsettling, and expensive. These guys are NOT the amazing company TWO MEN AND A TRUCK (who I have used before and are incredible movers). Metropolitan Movers have a franchise in Toronto called TWO MEN WITH A MOVING TRUCK and they are capitalizing on people getting confused like I did.

It took 2 Men 6 hours to move only a mattress, Frame, box spring, heavy cabinet, and a headboard from an apartment to a house (Taking into account 45mins travel time). We spent about an hour and a half trying to get a fridge out the door and once I realized the major delay it was causing we decided to just leave it. They don’t measure doorways, they have no supplies, they “forget” their tools in the truck and have to run back and forth to get it. At one point they dropped the drill bits all over the floor and spent half an hour picking them up one at a time and placing it back into the case, while the other worker stood there and did nothing. I swear it was dropped on purpose.

They were obviously very inexperienced and instructed to waste time as much as they could. They delay work at every single step intentionally to rack up hours. If there’s any discrepancy with the job (like they claimed their boss did not tell them they had to move a fridge downstairs) they stop work and talk in circles endlessly to waste time and call the boss who never answers then they have to edit the service agreement and have me resign everything etc etc.
At certain points I was scared they were going to hurt me for speaking up when I noticed ways they could be more productive (like I suggested one guy does one job and the other guy does something else instead of standing around watching and barking orders). The one guy was very combative while the other younger kid took a softer approach. It was a total setup.

They would take one thing In each hand up and down an elevator one at a time instead of boxing it up or filling the elevator once and going down. One guy would stand around doing absolutely NOTHING because he was angry about me speaking up or “stressing him out”. He told me I was lucky he wasn’t walking around smoking cigarettes or taking breaks!
They wouldn’t work unless payment for the entire job was paid in full (minus tax) at the the halfway mark. They made me pay it or they wouldn’t drive to the new location, so I sent an email transfer Because at that point I Was scared and didn't want them having my credit card info. We would then have to wait for the “boss” to confirm he had received the money until they would start the truck and move on. The boss wouldn't answer the phone for 15-20 mins to delay us even further. Then they told me to go just get cash and then they could start the truck instead of waiting for the etransfer to post and the boss to finally answer his phone. Like as if I’m going to give them over 1,000 in cash and a truckfull of my stuff and let them drive off? Especially when their service agreement says they aren’t responsible for items that “mysteriously disappear”.
They use all kinds of delay tactics to get you to rack up hours, bottom line. They always told me to “call the boss” if I had issues With their work and when I didn’t call and just said “ok keep going it’s fine” one of them would walk away from the job and get on the phone speaking Russian for 10 minutes then come back and spend another 20 minutes fighting with me about having to sign more paperwork about No liability for damages and this or that. It was a terrible experience overall and left me in tears. I’m happy they don’t know where I live since I only moved items from one friends to another’s, I got the feeling they are dangerous. I was shaking at times I was so unsettled by their conduct.
Curiously enough, it only took them 20 mins to unload the items into my friends garage once the 6
Hours had been used up and full payment was made. I spent about 3 times what it should have cost me.

Never use this company ever! They operate under different names but the legal company name is Metropolitan Movers when they make you sign your service agreement. If you see that name, tell them to leave and don’t sign a thing!

  15. My worst move ever.

It took 3 men 9 hours to move one truckload to a one bdrm apt. only one block away because they wasted time, and goofed around and did not use their hand carts to move boxes, extremely slow.
Blatant disrespect for a customer who is paying by the hour.
Furniture and other belongings were damaged due to their carelessness. Company does not respond to complaint or request for refund. I believe their website is very misleading.
