Not Beware, But Be Aware
If you want you stuff to arrive safely, their packing crew cannot be beat. But when all the bids came in around 25k for our move from California to Texas, Elite’s price was only 14k. I'll take it, was my reply. That gives me 11k of problems I'm covered for. Just know that they play a bit of a bait and switch job on you, because they had ways of pushing their price up over 20k before all was said and done, not to mention over a thousand in tips, which I was happy to pay. The bottom line is that we got all of our stuff delivered, eventually, and in one piece, so I still saved about 20%, despite their strategic con job.
Moving experience with Elite Moving and Storage
This a review for Elite Moving and Storage in Sun Valley, Calif. for the purpose of giving others a strong warning to avoid using this company as they are scammers, more specifically attempting to take advantage of customers during covid. Some time ago I signed up with this company to move me out of an apartment to another location in the LA area. I dealt with a woman named Donna who was pleasant enough and established that the arrival time for the movers to be a window between 12 and 3. On the day of the move I had to make numerous calls to find out if they were going to show up as by 3pm I hadn't heard from anyone but they finally arrived closer to 3:30. Right away the leader of the 3 movers tried to take control of the situation by giving a long winded speech about how due to the fact that I had many "expensive" items that they had to custom wrapped and thus the estimated price went up from around $1500 to $2699. Right away, I sensed something was off not only from the sudden huge jump in price but from his rap which sounded as if it had been rehearsed. I told them that there was no way I would agree to this without speaking with the manager. From their response I realized that they were not answerable to Elite management and that they were no doubt independent contractors and, therefore, not actual employees of Elite, even though the Elite name was on their shirts. When they realized that I was going to stand firm they gave up and left. What they were banking on was that I would have to be out of the apartment on that specific day and, therefore, be desperate to move and willing to agree to any price to make that happen. Well knowing that during this pandemic many people have been evicted or forced to move, this is the nature of their game and no doubt have tried it on countless others. These are the lowest kind of people, that would see this as an opportunity and intentionally take advantage of others during a worldwide crisis. After, doing some research I found that there had been numerous reports of mover scams in LA during covid including an article in the LA Times about it. Fortunately, I found another company who was honest to do the move for around $1200 and didn't charge me anything extra to wrap the more delicate items. Therefore, this is more than just an unfavorable review. It is a warning to all prospective customers to not use this company for your move. Scammers Suck!
Horrible Moving Company! do Not Use Them!
I wish I could give this moving company less stars!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! We booked our services through Donna about a month ago to move a few rooms from one house to another and in the process the movers broke my refrigerator and left it completely dinged up and scratched, not to mention tried to fit said refrigerator through a tiny door scratching up my door frame when there was an entire sliding glass door to bring the refrigerator in. When we immediately brought it to the attention of the movers they assured us that we would be properly compensated and taken care of. After all we signed a contract and the company is fully insured. Much to our disappointment it was nearly impossible to reach anyone with the company to deal with the matter, Donna was completely unresponsive to my emails and never responded. We had to go through a claims company that asked us what type of insurance policy we opted for. We were never even given the option or provided a conversation about our protection, and later we learned that Donna simply told us to sign a contract, and as a result we were left getting .60 on the dollar for any damaged items. As a result of their careless damage to our refrigerator we were compensated $100!! on a $2,000 brand new refrigerator that needs a complete door replacement!! The movers were careless and had no regard for our belongings and stood there waiting for a tip despite scratching up our furniture and dropping our belongings all over the floor. THE COMPANY DOES NOT PROTECT THE CUSTOMER. I cannot stress to you enough, if you have any desire to maintain your items and not have them ruined, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Worst experience ever (LA -> Phx).
NOT HONORABLE COMPANY. My advice is to avoid this company. Upon arrival, the supervisor was intimidating me to pay much more money than what I agreed, for proper / safe packing. This is a move that I had planned weeks in advance and I felt really backed in a corner to pay thousands more on top of an already high move estimate. It was a total shakedown and we ultimately decided to not go ahead with the move. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND MOVE ON TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY. They will appear professional to work with until the shakedown on day of move.
Beware -- Not Honorable | Proceed With Caution!!
My experiences are below. Given the choice I would not use them again and clearly cannot recommend them to others.
- Prior to move, Mary in main office was responsive and helpful. After the agreement was signed, she was either unresponsive or acted as a roadblock to getting answers/resolutions.
- On day of move, the foreman forced me to pay an additional $400 cash. Said stuff looked to be more than originally quoted.
- Despite giving what I was told by the company as a fair and reasonable tip. The foreman aggressively suggested that I needed to double that amount. Follow up conversations with managers confirmed this was standard practice.
- When it came to delivery - sent many unanswered emails/vms over the course of weeks. Finally they called and said my stuff would arrive in 6 hrs. Delivery Included damaged items and missing items.
- Still waiting to hear back from managers on how they will address my complaints. Despite being told it would take a few days it's been over two weeks.
Horrible if something goes wrong.
I hired Elite Moving in January for a move. While they seemed like a very easy to work with company and seemed reasonably priced, beware if something goes wrong. First, during the move, the one mover who seemed to be in charge, basically extorted about a $400 tip for himself and the other movers. He said if "i took care of them", he wouldn't charge me all of these hidden fees and then named his price. Since I was concerned if I didn't pay him what he wanted they would "drop" or "lose" my stuff. Also when I asked about insurance, he basically said nothing ever happens so I'll be fine. In the stress of moving and as he rushed me through signing all of the paperwork, I didn't take the time (and should have) read the fine print. When the movers arrived at my new location, the mover said when they picked up my glass entertainment stand, one of the shelves was shattered (picture attached), which made the entire thing worthless. When I contacted Elite about the damage, I was told they don't handle claims and I had to go through a 3rd party (CSI Pros). That process was not easy and clearly designed to cause claimants to drop the claim since it is so tedious and frustrating. Even though it was not disputed that Elite was at fault, it took three months to get an offer of approx. $65 for a shattered glass piece of furniture (valued at approx $500) that I had to replace and hire someone to assemble at a cost of approx. $300. As it is designed to have you do, I gave up fighting and agreed to this settlement. Then it took another few weeks to get the check. I definitely do not recommend them.
