  1. Beware. Do not trust them!!

    I have moved cross country 3 times in my professional career, and long distance van lines was by far the worst choice I have made for carriers. They under quoted and over charged, over promised and under delivered, outright lied to me. The were 12 days late. When they did show up, my items were "missing" and or broken. Some items were wet?? Unresponsive when asked to help. The form to get reimbursed for damage is a joke. Paula told me if I called the BBB or complained online she would resend my so called discount. Now they are not responding at all. DO NOT USE THEM YOU'LL BE SORRY.

  2. No way to get compensated.

    While many aspects of the move were good in the end we had a valuable computer stolen and several pieces of furniture destroyed. In addition several mattresses and box springs that didn't belong to us showed up and we had to send them back - I feel sorry for the family that lost them. I was disappointed with the fact that there was no real way to be compensated for the loss of the valuable items. The very small amount per pound that they allow is not worth the submission of a claim. In addition they require so much documentation that is not generally available for sending in that it would be impossible to get any of the few dollars they would give us anyway.

  3. Top grade professionalism.

    There was a lot of work to be done during my move to my new house in Milwaukee. I knew from a colleague that Long Distance Van Lines would do a perfect job while taking care of my possessions. They actually arrived at 8.00 am in my then apartments at Asheville, NC and undertook the work of parking and loading my things professionally and with the right moving tools. They made it look so easy and simple as I lost nothing during the entire process, but I thank them most for their top grade professionalism and diligence.

  4. Best Company.

    We have hired Long Distance Van Lines once and this is our second time. Last time, it was a quick move within the neighborhood and the items were of limited quantities. However, this was a large interstate move which the people handled with professional expertise. My husband suggested them because all of us were extremely satisfied with the service offered last time. The goods were in perfect condition when they delivered it to us and the movers took extra care of fragile items.Moving from Washington to Chicago is such a long trip but Long Distance Van Lines gave us some juicy discounts to ensure we stayed with them. Of course, we are going to continue hiring them every time. After all, it’s really tough to find a good mover to trust your goods with and when we have already found one. There’s no point in switching again. Thank you, guys!

  5. I liked this company.

    The first thing that I want to say is THANK YOU guys. My previous company cancelled the move so I had to act quick. So I got that, whatever they call PIGGY BAG move.  Pick up team was FAST and professional, they wrapped every single peace in my place. I had Full Pack Service, which is I think is awesome option that you can get and save your time also these people know how to do it better:) Everything went smooth and great, as promissed, got my stuff in 3 days in NC, separate thanks to Roy and Paula.  Good Luck!

  6. Extensive damage, poor service failure to follow through on agreements.

      I would like to make sure that this moving company is reported for a very poor delivery of service.  There was information given from the start, which turned out to be falsehoods:  1) I was promised the same people picking up my stuff would deliver it on the other end -this was not the case; 2) I was promised that my goods would be delivered within 21 days - it was 22 days, and the move was delayed three times.  Secondly, I was unable to contact a rep and received no return calls from many inquiries about what was going on.  Lastly, I had many damaged items, some of which are heirlooms from Germany.  Attached are 2 of the 8 pictures (which were the max allowed) of the damaged items.  .

  7. Awful Experience.

    Got bad service all around. We were lied to about our quote, also lied to us us about the fact that they promised us that the same people picking it up would be the same people dropping it off. The movers who dropped it off were rough with the furniture which are now damaged, missing pieces, they did not assemble it all completely. Broke some of our things that are now not usable, there are boxes missing. The after all of that they had the audacity to ask for a tip even though we already tipped the movers who picked up our shipment. -who were also supposed to deliver it. So they tried to get 2 tips out of us. Our shipment was 3 days late of the guaranteed latest date. I defiantly don't recommend this company to anyone. If you try to get a hold of a rep. on the phone they just tell you "there's nothing we can do" to every complaint you have. Claims dep. want you to jump through hoops just to file a claim. The want receipts and dates of purchase of all missing times. Some of the items were antiques and don't have receipts and most likely older than me. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS COMPANY!

  8. Unprofessional and unacceptable.

    *DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY*   There is nothing good to say about this company.  Everyone you speak to on the phone is rude, dishonest, and unprofessional.  The company will give you a quote that is significantly less than what they plan on charging you the day of the move, and at that point you are stuck b/c you have already given them a non-refundable deposit. The movers were horrible.  They could not speak English, they were disrespectful and careless with our belongings, resulting in a large amount of damage to our property.  The truck the movers showed up with on the day of delivery was severely damaged with a gaping hole in the back left corner of the truck and the back doors did not close all the way.  If it had rained during transport, I am sure all of our belongings would be ruined.   The standard insurance the company has is a joke - 60 cents per pound per item damaged.  As if that is not bad enough for coverage, the fine print on the claim form states that this coverage does not include scratches, dents or chips - What a joke, pretty much every piece of our furniture has been damaged to some extent in this move. Do yourself a favor and do not even call this company.   .

  9. Miserable.

    Do yourself a Huge Favor and do not use this sham! Like many others, I had a really bad experience with Long Distance Van Lines. They underestimated and applied huge packing charges. They showed up two days before we were to close on the sale if our home in PA and needed three days to get our belongings out. The buyers had to walk around a pile of furniture and boxes stored in our garage on the day of closing which was day number three of their loading process. They actually loaded the final items while we were at the closing. My wife and our three dogs made it to Texas in two days. The first load arrived the day after we closed on our new home which was three days after we arrived. I suppose it was too much to ask to deliver items that belonged together. We had table legs but no table tops, mattresses with no box springs, bed frames that were incomplete, and the damages. Boxes that looked like they were dragged all the way to Texas. Legs busted off night stands and shelving units, an entertainment unit that was delivered upside down so the top molding was destroyed. Basically looked like airport baggage handlers loaded the truck. The second load arrived 6 days later.  No difference in the loading process. It was a mess. This time, the guys were in a hurry. They didn't have time to actually put things where they belonged. It just told us where to put boxes, you move them to where they need to be. The challenge was that since the people who packed the boxes on the loading side did not mark the boxes, I had to try to open the boxes so I could see what the contents were in order to direct them where to place them. We got about 25% of our things where they needed to be placed. We are still placing the 75% of items essentially dumped in our foyer, living room, and office. The house is an obstacle course. I guess I can consider myself lucky since our stuff arrived faster than others in my situation. I can corroborate that not knowing when your things were going to arrive and two to three times a day calls to "customer service" (what a joke) my wife and I had to put our lives on hold never knowing when things were going to arrive and customer service was always annoyed at having to take my calls. They put you on hold so they can talk to dispatch or the warehouse while actually eating a doughnut and pretending to tell you that everything is on track.  It's like the movie Groundhog Day for days. It's been overall a nightmare. This company needs to be shut down. From what I have been able to determine unfortunately for me after the fact, they have been shut down several times before but keep re-emerging as a new entity.   .

  10. Bad movers.

    They didn't pick up or deliver with a 18 wheeler had to wait 19 days for deliver  i told them I was on three floor and no elevator told me to pay 75.00 for that , not telling me that it is 7 steps free had to pay another 150.00 for that and had a estimate for 1100 cubic ft and after all done I was over 125 cubic  ft which cost another 150.00 for that I had a bike that push it over after he had that on my estimate  already then after 19 days waiting the truck was a mess my stuff was just dump in it and all the stuff was pile on top all over it it was a mess  my bill started 2982 ended up 4267.25 I will not use this company ever.

  11. Stay Away.

    Delivery was guaranteed in 3-10 business days. At pick up, the person in charge told us that it was going straight up to NY and would be delivered in two days. Relying on his word, we made arrangements for my elderly parents to arrive after the delivery was to arrive. 5 days later, I'm contacted by the company and informed by dispatch that the delivery will arrive on either the 9th or 10th day, which is after my parents were to arrive at the house. I informed them what we were told at pick up and that this was a huge inconvenience. They denied that we were told at pick that it would be two days and said "a contract is a contract" and essentially accused us of lying about what we were told at pickup. They refused to apologize. Did I also mention that once the items got on the truck we received an invoice that was significantly higher than the original estimate? They also wont take anything off the truck until they are paid in cash and make you sign a contract saying that you wont dispute the credit card charge for the deposit. They also charge us over $700 for "packing materials" to move a small two bedroom house. How many boxes, bubble wrap and tape can one buy for $700? Beware of this company!!

  12. Poor moving experience.

    This move was incredibly unprofessional, stressful and time consuming. My things were damaged extensively at delivery causing me to purchase numerous new items in addition to the thousands spent for a move already using this company. The movers did not speak English at arrival and the company actually gave me the number of another individual to call in order to translate with my delivery individuals. Not at all what I would expect. The "customer service" department was actually funny how poor they handled things. Like other reviews have stated, the customer is always wrong with them. Despite 3 wrong delivery dates, I was still wrong for expecting a date of arrival. I feel very bad for individuals that get caught up and use this company for what is already a stressful process of moving around the country. It is hard to believe that this company prides themselves on their service and I would caution people to look elsewhere for services.

  13. Worthy.

    If you conduct a short search online, you will notice how much Long Distance Van Lines is revered by their former clients. Long Distance Van Lines has numerous top ratings and positive reviews as their former clients recommend them to other people. This is what made me use LDVL and I can say that they are very worthy of their ratings and commendations. They ensured that I was 100% satisfied by taking great care of my possessions, delivering on time and charging me very reasonably. I also recommend Long Distance Van Lines to others. .

  14. BEWARE of Long Distance Van Lines. Expect to pay 50% higher.

    "THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG" must be their motto.  Long Distance Van Lines has proved to me why this is not a reputable industry.  Poor communications all the way through the process.  Poor customer service.  I feel totally taken advantage of, as they charged me thousands of dollars extra for my move. On the day of the move, when the truck was half packed, they told me that it was going to cost an extra $4K to move my things. This was over 50% more than their original quote. I don't see how this is possible, as I had another company come survey my things and stated a volume that was just under their original quote. Little did I know that an original quote means absolutely nothing! This is their way to low ball you with an estimate, get you as a customer, and then, when you have no other choice, charge you thousands more to complete the move. Plus, when my things arrived - I took pictures of the volume within the new truck (as they had transferred it from the original truck) and the volume was a lot less than what they had charged me for.  I wouldn't be surprised if they purposefully wrongly packed the first half of the truck initially so that it was not entirely full. But guess what - there was nothing I could do.

    If you look at the contract, you essentially sign your rights away - and if there is an issue you are responsible for the legals costs for both parties - so it doesn't even make it worth pursuing. They even caused damage to my home, which they didn't want to take responsibility for, even though they had said they would. They gave me misinformation all along the way in regards to delivery - which caused me to incur extra costs.  They were not very responsive or very customer friendly. Also, there were a number of my items that were damaged.   Overall, I've never been so stressed in my life from this moving company.  It shouldn't have to be this way.

  15. Long Distance - Van Lines.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY   I really believed I had done my research and chosen wisely.  I was not going to be relating horror stories of my moving experience.. and yet here I am.   This company will tell you anything to get you to sign up; Stacey was very good at figuring out what to say to reassure me; it was a family business, they don't contract out; estimate was so reasonable, etc.  I got cold feet and decided to cancel after reading bad reviews on Yelp.  I called and was reassured by Michelle and Paula that these were exceptional cases and they were working with them to resolve issues.  I guess I wanted to believe so I went forward.  After walking through my house and listing every item to be moved I was given a $4000 quote.  I was downsizing and felt it was a fair estimate.  After the estimate and before the move I decided to sell a number of large items: 4 piece bedroom set, 52" TV, etc.  I was sure I would be way under the estimate.  Even without those items I reached my full capacity quickly.  I was shocked that I had to leave my washer/dryer, baker's rack, boxes, etc. (all of which were in the original inventory).  I was told later (the one time I actually got a call back out of at least 15 calls) that I had more items than I originally said.  Of course I did; the original inventory list said: 1 bed; the moving inventory list said: 1 box spring, one mattress.  original: 1 table; moving list; 1 table top, 1 legs of table.  Get the idea?  Anyone would have more items if they break items down to their component parts.  Of course, I could have paid twice the estimate to move the items that did not fit in my original allotted space but I am now making other arrangements.  I will not give this company one more cent.  Before I signed, I got calls every day.  After my things were delivered, I can't get anyone to call back..  For your own sake.. don't deal with this company.  I could go on and on with details but I need to go to Yelp, Angie's List, BBB, and anywhere else I can find on line.  I am also thinking of contacting the Attorney General in MD about fake reviews.. other companies have gotten into serious trouble for this practice.  I'll do what I can to keep someone else from being ripped off.
