  1. Do Not Use This Company..

The truck that came did not say Atlantic Van Lines, so they obviously farmed this assignment out. Long story short, I was vastly overcharged, but like others had no way to prove the weight indicated was way off. we had a one bedroom apartment with one extra bed and no appliances (they claimed the weight was 5,165 lbs) NO WAY!! Had to pay in full before they would unload the truck. After inspecting my things, everything that came in (on an unprotected dolly) was scratched and or gouged. Your comment on your site that says, "your trust is our top concern" should be removed, as it apparently isn't so. Not only do we feel that we were vastly overcharged, you further added to this insult by offering us $50.00 for numerous pieces of furniture damaged. I will research the internet and find every possible site to express our experience with your company.

  2. Disappointed.

Echoing many many others experience. I am usually really good at doing my research. I wish I read these first.
The men that came worked extremely hard in the midst of a heat wave. My frustration came when they charged us $450 for "packing". They asked me at booking if I needed packing material and I said no. But the first thing they did was assemble these huge boxes, great for holding odd shape things. But still, no mention of a charge for this until drop off day. They had my husband initial beside packed, but no dollar value was listed there.
I don't hold them responsible for my things weighing more than I was quoted, but I do hold them responsible for the hidden "packing" charges.

  3. Terrible experience.

I never post bad reviews and rarely get upset about things but feel that it's important that people know our experience with Atlantic Van Lines. As with many others, can't believe I am only reading the reviews now when I need to post my own. I wouldn't have chosen this company had I taken the time to read the miserable ratings. However, again like many others, was blinded by the low initial estimate. End total was over double the initial quote with no way to prove the scaling/ weight charge. Several, several damaged items- Large and small. Almost $200 in extra packing charges that the movers never asked us about until truck was loaded and they were leaving. So we paid $200 for packing items that in the end were delivered completely damaged (smashed t.v, professional wedding picture frame, etc). For example, charged $50 for "wardrobe" bag for wedding dress which we found at the bottom of a larger box crushed by several tools from garage. Were told 2 weeks until delivery. Repeatedly phoned until finally someone agreed to have our stuff delivered at the end of the third week even though it was sitting in storage less than an hour from our house. We submitted a claim for the damage items (and paid for extra coverage that they later claimed we hadn't) and were told nothing was covered. They claimed that certain items were owner packed which hadn't been so they couldn't compensate us. Outright lied to by this company. Scammed for all this extra packing and no insurance even though you think you are signing for it. On delivery, we had items (large furniture pieces) that didn't belong to us and then had other items dropped off at our doorstep in the middle of the night that they had missed delivering during the initial move. Other than Lucy being a supportive contact person, ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE COMPANY. Save yourself the headache, your possessions and lots of money by NEVER EVER doing business with this company.

  4. Do Not Use this Company.

Terrible! Messed up communications regarding timing of move in day. Movers had no runners and walked up and down in and out of the house with freshly cleaned carpets with their dirty shoes. marked up the freshly painted walls. they dumped the stuff anywhere they felt like, left stuff in the garage without checking if it should go there. they then took off without saying a word and neglected to tell me that they would not be reassembling all the beds, tables and other furniture they had disassembled. Didn't even tell me where all the hardware was. there were scratches and gouges on some pieces of wood furniture, and a missing lamp too..not happy at all. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL REGRET IT. OVERCHARGED FOR WEIGHT HAD NO WAY TO VERIFY..RIDICULOUS!

  5. Horrible experience.

I had a horrible experience with this company. They took 3 hours to pick up my furniture (1 bedroom condo) with me helping them. They called 6 times to change the time for drop off and to ask me to change the elevator booking time, which I repeatedly told them I can't. They delivered half of my stuff broken.

  6. Moving.

I had an excellent moving experience with this company. The delivery people were so very nice and accommodating! I had a very small window of opportunity to receive my furniture and the delivery staff twisted themselves inside out to be accommodating. I was also provided with excellent and prompt customer service via email communications with the company. I would heartily recommend your company to any friend or family member who was considering moving.

  7. Think Twice about this one.

    In summary:
Atlantic Van Lines is not a member of CAM. Get a CAM mover and you will be happier with the results.

Lower estimates are used to lure you into choosing this mover. They will get your business, report a much higher weight after the scaling process and charge you a much higher fee than they estimated; by then you have no alternative but to pay if you want to recover your assets. Remember, it is your right to be present during the scaling process or to even ask for re-scaling if you don't believe they are correct or the difference between your estimate and actual fees is too big.

They are not transparent with their additional and hidden charges. Do your research and ask them for details.
If you have good assets, you will be better off getting additional insurance for your move because with Atlantic Van Lines you will have broken and missing items.

If you need to go to the claims process for damaged assets, don't expect to get much out of it unless you had acquired additional insurance coverage. Either way, what they will reimburse you is an insult that just adds to the aggravation of the whole process.

    Moving details:
Moving a 2 bedroom apartment from Montreal to Toronto in January. The 2 floor apartment was located on the 18th floor approximately 20 meters from the service elevator

    Pros:
+ you are assigned an agent who will become your contact person
+ prompt administrative response and follow up
+ courteous staff no matter the situation they are dealing with
+ movers were always on time or notified you when they were not going to be

    Cons:
+ they provided generic estimates based on weigh. Their initial estimate was based on the number of rooms in my apartment despite I provided an itemized list of all assets to be moved
+ they will not send a person to your home to perform an on-site estimation like certified movers do
+ Their estimate was off by at least 3,000 pounds according to the scale weight reported. Such a large difference between estimate and actual weight underscores either the lack of experience of this company producing estimates or the transparency of their scaling process.
+ Atlantic only disclosed information on additional charges and hidden costs when I specifically inquired about them (e.g. packaging costs, long distance displacement, additional insurance, etc.)
    During the move (move day)
+ Movers broke several items during pick up and delivery. No reports were filed on-site. I was told to submit a claim
+ Movers decided they were going to apply a long displacement charge for the distance they had to walk from the elevator to the apartment and requested cash on-site
+ I had disassembled most of the furniture but movers insisted on further disassembling some items (e.g. desks); they broke on-site everything they disassembled (and they used my tools to break my furniture!)
+ movers used plastic bags to wrap some of the furniture. The plastic bags generated additional charges despite the fact that the moving agent had told me that this was included
+ boxes marked as fragile were moved just like any other box, no extra care despite the signage in the packing
+ items were literally "jammed" into the truck (seeing how they had packed the truck, I knew many items will not make it to destination in one piece)
    Upon Delivery:
+ no assembly was performed, several packages were missing (e.g. boxes, appliances and items that could not be packed)
+ multiple pieces of furniture were broken, scratched or had missing parts
+ Took pictures of all damaged items and filed a claim. After 2 months, they estimated that our insurance deductible covered our damages and they owed us nothing but since they are nice guys they were going to give us a $50 CDN consolation incentive (our estimation for repairing damaged wood furniture and replacing missing items was over $1,300 CDN)

I cannot in good conscience recommend this mover. Thanks.

  8. You get what you pay for, and they omit information.

I dealt with Toronto office. Communication was spotty but they were much cheaper than everyone else. I should have known.

They arrived 5 hours late at pickup. The drivers asked for a tip. After they left, I noticed they marked everything damaged on the weigh bill (just to get out of taking on any responsibility, I was not moving damaged items). They are good movers - no dents in walls and they moved fast - but the business side is a racket.

They arrived early at drop-off and claimed to not be able to bring a truck in so they wanted an extra $350US to transfer to smaller truck. I had no choice at this point so I negotiated to $150 USD just to make the problem go away. Even though they were simply storing these items in a garage and did not even have to unload or go up stairs, they offered no concessions. I just wanted my stuff at this point and wanted to be done with them.

This company is cheapest but they will give you headaches. Moving is stressful enough, why add to your problems with them? Movers are hard to understand also..and they kept counting the cash I gave and coming up with a different amount.

No idea what shape my items are in or if anything is missing but I fully expect there to be more problems as I unpack.

This company has bad reviews for a reason! Please don't disregard like I did, pay a bit more for your sanity and go with someone else.

  9. Review of my recent move.

Moved household stuff from our vacation home in Florida back to Canada with Atlantic and was pretty impressed with the service. The reviews were mixed but I took the time to speak with the sales rep and met with the office staff personally (Alberta office). I hired them and was very impressed with the response time and attention to details. There were some delays at the border but Atlantic helped solve the issues (as I am not currently in Canada). I was happy as I did not want to spend extra $ to fly to clear the goods. Many thanks to Lucy who answered all of my questions and to Jonathan the driver who called when there were issues.
Total weight of the shipment was 7980 lbs and I was pretty happy with the price that I paid.

  10. Ripoff Ripoff Ripoff.

Got scammed by this mover first thing said it would be delivered in 10 days ended up being 21 days and then at my constantly calling for delivery. Before delivery they called the quoted price was doubled and wanted payment immediately and I contested the scaling which I originally figured between 1-2000 lbs they came up with 3800 lbs after delivery I had it re-scaled and it was 2085 lbs but now they will not accept my scaling, excuses excuses about the scaling which another shipper gave me on a public scale. Clearly this mover is in the scamming business and you will never get refunded when you pay them before delivery. In my opinion their scaling warehouse is very very fraudulent.

  11. Atlantic Van Lines loses furniture.

They lost my couch, a recliner and bed rails. Everything else was there but these three items. The movers who dropped off the my stuff were going to give me someone else's couch, I told them that it was not mine; and I didn't want it.

This company offered me 75.00$ (seventy-five dollars) as compensation for its incompetence.

My advice is to shop around for a better company.

    Regards Donna

    Samantha was the Sales Representative.

  12. Run for the hills.

Never, never ever under any circumstances use this company.
We were quoted. 26/ pound based on approx. 4000 lbs.
They never came to do a visual inspection of our property, we were never offered an alternative. When the 2 guys showed up, they took one look, sent for a bigger truck and another body. We had spent a great deal of time packing, marking cartons, these guys simply made up garment boxes and throwing our belongings into them. They finally arrived at our new home at 7 pm, unloaded, dropped boxes everywhere, unpacked or setup nothing and took off at 10pm. We are filing complaints with BBB and ontario consumer protection office. They lie about what they deliver and moreover you can't trust whatever they claim the weight of the load is. DO NOT HIRE THESE THEIVES!

  13. Atlantic Van Lines.

This was our fifth move by professional movers and our worst experience.
They agreed to a 2 day move..pack first day move second day. I found out two days before our move that they were going to do it all in one day. By then I had no choice. arrived at 7:30 am with 3 guys to pack and move a 4 bedroom house. These guys were right po'd when they saw what a big job it was. Consequently the packing was horrible. They filled these huge boxes to the top with NO bubble wrap or paper between items. The guys where rushing so fast to get the job done that very little care was taken with our possessions. They left our new home at 11:30pm that same day and they had no clue what was in the boxes. They couldn't even find our bedding.
The sales guy low balled the estimate by over 3000 pounds. Maybe he was new. Maybe he does it on purpose. Their people are highly trained on the broken record technique "sorry nothing we can do it's policy"
We put in a claim for all our belongings that they damaged and haven't heard a word. We will never use them again.

  14. Too long between pickup and delivery! **PACKER BEWARE**.

Overall rating I am giving is AVERAGE, because some parts of our experience were UNSATISFACTORY; and others GOOD:

    PROS:
*Initial contact with head office was very friendly and we were offered a quote on the move, with expected pick up date (it was a window of about 5 days). See additional comments below.
*Pick up crew was friendly, professional, and efficient
*All email communications were answered promptly by the general office manager
*Furniture items were professionally wrapped in thick blankets and some other items required to be packed were done very well (see additional comments below)
*Delivery crew was friendly and courteous

    CONS:
-The initial email with the quote did not give any details about insurance or damage. It was only upon pick up that I was required to sign a waiver to agree to a $325.00 deductible on any claim of losses or damages. (I recommend you ASK about their terms of liability prior to engagement)
-There was no communication from the movers unless we prompted them through email. For example, over the phone I was told that I would be contacted when the load would be delivered; but it was only after an additional email that I was finally given a delivery date. This is unacceptable, and I feel that an approximate delivery date should be provided at the time of the quote. (Something I would insist in future)
-The delivery crew refused to assemble our bed upon arrival, indicating "they didn't pay me to do that". So, it appears that Atlantic Movers is sub-contracting the pick up and delivery services.
-25 days from the time of pick up to delivery with no reason provided for (what seems like) a delay?
    - The cost of the packing items is ASTRONOMICAL! $10 for a 2' cube; $20 for a 4'; and $40 for a wardrobe box. No matter what, you'll have to pay for some packaging - but when I was purchasing boxes locally for $1 - $3, it's crazy to have to pay 1000% mark up for the mover's boxes! Take my advice, and PACK IT YOURSELF! In addition to the boxes, they charged extra for the plastic wrapping ($40) of the items that were wrapped with furniture blankets. (I would have thought that this was included in the proper security of furniture items.)
    - We were not contacted when the delivery time was changed from "between 11 and 4" to "between 5 and 7". I only found out about the change when I called to confirm that they had received my payment.
    - One box (packed by me with great care, and plenty of bubble wrap and paper) was clearly marked "extremely fragile" and yet when it arrived, it had clearly been mishandled. Thank goodness my Tiffany lamp was okay, but I lost a shade on one of my antique lanterns.
-One of our antique wooden pieces has a gouge on it that will need to be repaired.

  15. Dont use them, they don't Care for you, your belongings or your home.

They don't care for you or your belongings, or your home. We requested the pickup and the delivery guys to remove their shoes and they made a face and refused to remove them made the old and the new home dirty and had to call cleaners to have the house cleaned, the guys are not friendly at all. customer service does not exist and they don't care for their customers. We were promised that the charges include "Room to Room" service and also includes dis-assembly and the guys refused to deliver some of the heavy items to our room, left it in the garage, when we complained to the customer service they were rude and did not care. do not recommend them even if they provide moving service for free.
