  1. Moving is never easy.

Moving is never easy. No one gets used to it since most of the time it never goes our way. It does not matter that you are moving a few things; it could go wrong very fast and leave you counting losses. I’m grateful I came across Long Distance Relocation Services, which made it piece-of-cake easy to move to Virginia. I loved their timeliness, their organization and how they listened to me. You are the best moving team ever!

  2. Very good team.

Writing this review to express my gratitude to the entire Long Distance Relocation Services team from the movers to the office staff. From the first time we contacted them, they were extremely helpful and very open about the pricing structure. There was no funny business and random clauses - in the end, the estimate given was spot on.
On the day itself, moving team arrived on time and worked hard to finish the job as promised. All the items arrived safe and sound, which is a big thing for a California to Oregon move of a 3-bedroom house. Good people, good company.

  3. Best of the best.

I had to write this review because we think this moving company deserves to be known as one of the best out there. They are polite, careful with your things and know their job very well. Will surely use them for our next move. Now I'm back to California arranging another move with them.

  4. Hidden fees and "lost" items.

This was our first married move and we should have gone with a reputable company. We were very flexible and changed the pick up day for the company. Then they tried to arrive a day early, but I wasn't available. The day of we had to beg them to list the items and to let me check marks on the boxes. They also refused to box our mattress. When it got to the end, our "binding" cost was 1.5x the estimate based on poor estimate on their size and fishy wording on the contract. When they went to deliver, they tried to come a day early, before we even had a key. The staff yelled at both my husband and I for not being available when they were. When I called customer service about all of these issues, they were beyond rude. Additionally, my triathlon bike was missing and the mattress that I wanted boxed was ruined. Unlike reputable companies, there were only 2 options for insurance: 1) weight based 2) value based, but instead of being a few hundred, it was several thousand $$ extra for just in case. The total cost of our move with everything damaged and lost was double our estimate. We are on a tight budget with our first baby on the way- this was devastating for us.

  5. I strongly caution you on using this company.

I have moved many times. Most moves were with the military. Four personal moves were with cross country carriers using this type of service. To date I have never experienced a nightmare like this. The lack of integrity, calculated fraud, and coercive dealings is unparalleled in my experience.
I had a simple move from the DC area to Sheridan, Wyoming. We called several places and picked one in the middle for cost. We wanted competitive but never select the cheapest. The original estimate to move a motorcycle, bike, desk, there small chairs, and 15 medium or large boxes was $2,550 with a down payment of $613. This left $1937 due.
It sounds like a joke; 2 Russians and a Moldovan walk into an apartment. Fortunately my wife is a Russian speaker and understood what they were saying in the apartment. The pressure for time started when they arrived very late in the scheduled window. Being late to the apartment complex at month’s end means you are tying up the dock for the next mover. We scheduled a day before months end in case something when wrong. Still, there was no time to react to this type of delay and the costs started rising, the stress started, and we can feel the screwing begin. With most everything on the truck, they start talking money. We were very committed at this stage and have few or no options at that point. Under duress, they are pushing prices, justifying increases, and squeezing you to sign agreements that you will not dispute the charges on your credit card. There is obvious pressure as you battle back against unreasonable escalating charges.
We paid an upcharge for moving the Harley Road King. It was known up front and I am sure is designed to make up for the bulky item. I was concerned after watching them attempt to move the bike. I put it on the lift for them because the concept of a clutch or neutral seemed elusive. They slid, jimmied, and lifted the bike into place. From the dock, they appeared to pack it well and strap it into a tall card board wrap on the exposed sides. The boxes were tossed into the truck at maximum handlebar height, and the square footage started to expand. I thought that they would stack and strap them at least higher than three and a half to four feet but they said that they could not because of the bike and insurance. This seemed off to me and a wonder if subsequent loads would be handled the same way because of my bike.
We called the administrator who in turn called the representative on site. He said the boxes were huge suggesting wardrobe size. There was a nice mix of large and medium boxes or tubs. They were packaged well individually but and they were not well packed in the truck. The administrator stiff armed us and did not even want to see photos of shipped good or the packing job. They wanted even more but dropped the price (minimally) after we started talking about the lack of strapping, stacking, and complaints.
They told me that they would charge the total on delivery; I was charged in full within a day or so. That charge was $2,962.00. With the deposit, the total was $3575.
Delivery on the other end was very problematic. After a month I called to check the status of my shipment. From the start it required inquiry at every turn, they push absolutely no information. If I did not call, I would have no idea on when the shipment would arrive. The status remained elusive for several more weeks. The folks were very polite on the phone when I called but totally unaware. At one point the scheduler/dispatcher was out for a wedding or family event. I am not heartless but an organized business would probably have some form of redundancy. Still, not a huge issue except when you have a life, you count on service providers to be timely and efficient. Eventually, I was told that they would inform me of a delivery date. More time passed and I was becoming a bit impatient. Still, what can you do but wait. The documents said that the company would inform me 72 hours prior to delivery. By chance, I contacted the company for an update. I was told my goods were on a truck for delivery. OK, I guess notice and coordination was out of the question. I got the driver’s number and gave him a call. He said he was in the Nebraska and would arrive morning of the next day. I changed my calendar to accommodate the arrival. The driver also told me that he had a motorcycle and not way to get it off and that it was my responsible to find a place to get the Harley off of the truck. At that point I lost my temper and chewed on him a bit. I called the company who said they would contact him; it was not my problem. OK, I thought we were tracking. The next day came and not driver. I called him and it appeared that he would be delayed until the afternoon. My day was wasted.
The truck arrived the next morning by 10. I shifted my meetings for the next to the afternoon. After more calls the driver showed several hours late. The driver finally arrived. He and his assistant were getting set-up and I took pictures of the goods stored neatly in an area about half the size of the area that the initial truck took for storage. Well at least this group could pack. I spoke to the older gentlemen, like the driver before him, he was Russian. His assistant driver was a hustler but injured. He was trying to work but I lent a hand to speed up the unloading so I would not lose any more time that day. Then it came time to unload the motorcycle. Again, we have no way to get it off of the trailer and I am left trying to find a dock. Russian ingenuity led the driver to suggest pirating a trailer setting in the yard next door. It was not mine but the driver pulled up to the trailer with the intent of pushing the bike onto trailer and moving the ramp to the tail of trailer and coasting it down. Though very uncomfortable, I watched the clock realizing that I need to get things moving. I took a few pictures of the event. I watched as the clutch and gear system challenged them. There were issues with me getting on the truck but they acquiesced after they figured themselves incapable of making the transfer. I was relieved as they could barely balance it and their intent was to balance and push my Harley across a thin ramp. I rode it off the truck and done the trailer as quickly as I could to avoid problems with the trailers owner.
I quickly moved to get the guys on their way so that I could get back to work. Though I dealt with much of the move myself they driver was not too afraid to ask for a tip, brilliant.
I still do not know if my good are in good shape. Most remain in boxes. I can say the experience to date has not been overly present. Because of this, I strongly caution you on using this company! I have photos of the entire event, packing, unpacking, etc. for consideration.
    John Dolan.

  6. Remarkable.

My mother had been a civil servant for 35 years and had lived in the city for all those years. When she retired, she couldn’t wait to move to our rural home in Arizona. Being her only child, finding a good moving company was my role. I looked and asked around. Long Distance Relocation Services came up a lot more times than any other. I decided to settle for this company. They did a recommendable job and earned praise from my mum. By the way she is mean with praises but for this company she is ever talking how they did it like pros.

  7. Long Distance relocation rip off.

I contacted several companies on a move and the quote was the most cost effective with Long Distance Relocation Group. I decide to use these guys but as they loaded my goods into there truck the raised the price on my move, by double the price. As I had already left the state I could not get someone else to move and they already packed my stuff into there truck. I felt like it was a bait and switch and my stuff was being held up for ransom. I will never use these guys for moving anything. I will suggest that you have them give you an actual quote before they arrive as you never deal with the person who picks up your stuff or the one who drops it off. Buyer beware of there shifty tactics and dealings. As well a they broke several items during the move and they all blame the other movers. Not a good way to do business.
    Signed a not satisfied customer.

  8. My girlfriend is the biggest fan of LDRS.

After dating for four years, my girlfriend and I decided to live together. Since she lived in Illinois and I in Virginia, I convinced her to come over to my place. However, there was one hurdle to our plan; she wanted to move all her things to my place. She would hear none of my persuasion to sell her stuff since I had all we needed in my apartment. A close friend recommended Long Distance Relocation Services. These guys are pros and they made the movement very easy. My girlfriend never stops praising this company.

  9. Good, reliable company.

Movers have a reputation for being slow time wasters but that is definitely not the case here. My movers turned up on time, handled their business with speed and efficiency and completed the move right on time. Good, reliable company.

  10. No problems, start to finish.

I chose Long Distance Relocation Services after asking a few people for recommendations based on their personal moving experience. We were moving our apartment in Alabama to a 4-bedroom home in Texas and there was lot of stuff to handle that could break or be damaged. I spent some time with Jordan from their office to get all the details correct, and also had a discussion with our movers. In the end, the move went off without a hitch and it was great to see everyone committed to getting it done right. Recommended!

  11. Bang for your buck.

Long Distance Relocation Services is the best balance of cost and quality that we have seen in the moving business over our last few moves. They might not be the cheapest but you definitely get a distinctly higher standard of staff and service. We had Nico’s team as our movers and they handled the whole move with smooth efficiency and none of the ‘we have to take a break now’ nonsense I’ve had to put with before. A big thank you also to the support staff, especially business manager Joseph. Our massive 4-bedroom move was perfect because of you guys!

  12. Stay away from Long Distance Relocations Services!

We had a terrible experience with our move to Sacramento from Baltimore with Long Distance Relocation Services (LDRS). Stay away and find another mover! We did our due diligence researching moving companies, including reviews on My Moving Reviews, Yelp and Home Advisor; looking at the FTC ratings; and comparing mileage charges, packing charges, estimating inventory etc. We interviewed half a dozen companies, including one that did an on-site walk through (which we believe we should have selected as their estimate would have been closest to actual). On moving day with LDRS, they almost immediately required us to sign paperwork agreeing to a 50% increase in moving charges - thousands of dollars above the agreed upon price - placing us in a take-it-or-leave it situation: agree to the additional charges or have our carefully laid moving plans completely disrupted. Because I needed to travel across the country and start a new job, I essentially had no choice but to pay the thousands extra LDRS demanded. It was a sign of what was to come.

The move itself was quite chaotic and it was difficult to keep track of things. LDRS did not label the boxes or keep any kind of inventory about what was inside, so we were unable to review their work. We did find cupboards that were unpacked, and they hastily packed them up. What we did not realize is that they hid our rolled up Persian rugs in the basement rather than loading them on the truck. Obviously, this was done to save the weight, but these valuable possessions were left on the East Coast and, not only did we have no way to get them to California, LDRS refused to provide compensation for the loss.

But that is just part of our moving horror story with LDRS. We were disappointed but not surprised when LDRS told us the truck with our goods would not arrive until the very last day of the delivery window. We were extremely dismayed when we received only partial shipment on that date. Our contract provided for them to set up our two beds for us on arrival. However, there was no way to tell what was in any particular box nor what was on the first versus the missing shipment, so they did not set up our beds. Furthermore, we never received all the pieces to one of our beds. It was a quality piece of furniture and it arrived broken, and we never did receive the split box spring that was part of it, nor did LDRS take responsibility for the damage or the loss. (How does a professional mover “lose” a box spring?) Assurances that they "searched the warehouse" and missing items "should be on the next truck” proved false. We set up our own beds after securing a piece of plywood for the broken bed - at our own expense, of course.

If only that were the end of the problems. LDRS seemed to have selected what they wanted to steal from among our possessions, for example, our brand new printer/scanner for our home-based business; brand new iPod speaker and headphones; art, another rug, and more. Many items were broken and damaged. I even gashed my hand on broken glass while reaching in to unpack a box.

The worst was not over. LDRS specializes in the most antagonistic, rude, stonewalling, frustrating "customer service” experience ever. Paula in particular seems to pride herself in being the most unyielding, unreasonable, unfeeling gatekeeper in this world. It was never about seeking a fair and honest resolution for LDRS, but rather about finding a way to “just say no.” This went on for nearly a year, and if we had the time and money, we would have hired a lawyer to take them on, but with just moving and starting a new job who has the financial and energy resources to do this? Their business model relies on the fact that eventually, after months of back-and-forth, the consumer is worn down and will settle for another paltry LDRS take-it-or-leave-it deal as we did, after all our efforts to document and negotiate hit the continual LDRS brick wall. It was stressful to the point of tears, dishonest and grossly unfair.

LDRS will “disappear” your belongings without taking any responsibility for your loss. They will not take care of you or your possessions, and whatever they break, damage or steal, you will fight long and hard to get pennies to the pound. Also, beware that if you submit a claim and subsequently discover another loss, they will refuse to allow you to add it even though they have not yet paid or even approved the claim, and although it is not written on any of the paperwork nor orally communicated at any point that this is their hard-and-fast rule.
Moving is difficult enough. Do not do this to yourself - go with a reputable company that specializes in moving households, and has a long, positive track record of standing by their work. Neither of those things describe LDRS. They are HORRIBLE.

  13. Careful and Efficient.

I am never eager to move because I collect objects, many of which are large and all of which are fragile and costly. Therefore, it takes a lot of time and effort to research the best possible service. I am pleased to say that Long Distance Relocation Services did not disappoint me at any point, from the time I first contacted them for a quote to the delivery and unpacking of the final item on moving day. It is really great to see such professionalism. Thank you, for a job well done.

  14. Complicated move? No problem.

I was dreading a move from my 2-bedroom apartment in Maryland because the move there was complicated by some very weird stairwell construction and a very tight driveway below. A big Thank You! to Joel and Terrance from Long Distance Relocation Services who negotiated all the tight turns and awkward positions in getting all my stuff down to their van without damaging anything.
I am very happy to have found these guys and will definitely recommend them to everyone I know.

  15. Great experience.

Very happy to leave a review for Long Distance Relocation Services after the great experience we had using them in our move recently. We were moving to Delaware from Maine with all the stuff accumulated from living in a 3-bedroom house over 12 years… which is a lot! The movers were really nice and knew what they were doing. I am really happy all my fragile and expensive items were delivered without damage. Even better was the fact that we got a discount at a time when we were looking to save – moving cities involves a mountain of unforeseen costs!
