  1. Across state move

I utilized two pods to help my mom move from CA to TX at a cost of over $3,100. The pods took longer than expected. The pods were scheduled to arrive 8am to noon on specific day, they arrived late. One of the pods arrived with a damaged lock and could not be opened. UPack was not helpful nor was their freight carrier ABF. I had to go out myself and buy bolt cutters and break in to get my stuff. That took another day to do. On a move of over $3,100 they offered to now pay for the bolt cutters and give me $20 for my time (that's a .64% discount). What a total waste of a service this was.

  2. Super service and value

Just retired and took time to relo to another home. Tried 3 cubes for a start. Did trailer 2 months later. I like the cube better because it was easy to load at ground level. But with help, the trailer is also a good option when you have more. It's a good value in moving. Better than the competition in weight limits and weather protection. And comparable in price. I had excellent customer support as well.

  3. Cancelled our trailer within one week of move.

UPack confirmed our reservation in early September for a November move. They then left a voicemail one week before our move and cancelled our trailer. Their stated reason was they couldn’t get a trailer due to all the people moving out of California. Was this a surprise? Aren’t you in the business? How could you not know?

They gave us no options or other ideas to move. Just dropped us. If you didn’t want the business to begin with, then don’t confirm it. If there is a risk of a lack of trailers, then tell us. Terrible customer service, no integrity, no help in finding alternatives, no financial offer to help us offset our problem which they caused. Really a terrible business.

  4. They took advantage of our bad circumstances.

Unpack took advantage of us in Covid

We hired unpack to move us to Georgia. By the time we had arrived there our holder had contracted Covid and was going to be out of work for an unforeseen amount of time due to complications. We decided to head to my parents place in Florida till we could figure out a next step and asked unpack of storage was available. They told us 500/math. Once we got situated we requested it be shipped to the new address. Not only was the few hours away going to cost us another $2000 to ship it but they would not prorate the 10 days of storage we used. They said we owed the entire 500. I asked for Neils managers information and he refused to provide it. He said I wouldn’t get a different answer from them. He would not provide a last name. He also said, it was written in our contract that they don’t prorate storage. Considering that storage was never discussed, the representative that organization the storage for us, never mentioned that.

Yes, this situation was something we were going to have to accept and pay the additional money for but this company took advantage of our back circumstances. So all together almost $6000. They should be ashamed. Covid put us in a bad situation and unpack was happy to reap the benefits.

  5. Damaged Goods and Poor response.

Moved from WI to FL Sept 2020. The moving part of the process was great and easy to set up and execute. However, the packing and handling of personal items is totally a different story. I had some very expensive items that had been handed down in my family and been moved 8 times in the last 10 years across the globe damaged. The damage was caused due to poor packing and strapping of the load before shipping. When I contacted Upack to discuss I was treated like I was at fault and told your only recourse is to claim @$0.10 per lb. The items damaged equal about $14 000 and I will be paid $94.50 if I am lucky. I submitted the claim to get it sent back because I used a dash vs. a period in the total amount. I highly recommend that you don't use this crowd unless you totally supervise the entire loading process as it will bite you later.

  6. Long distance move.

From PIT to DFW. Easy to load, arrived in 5 days, no damage, nice people, and 60% of the cost of PODS.

I used PODS for a local move and liked them. I called them to match U-PACK’s price and they would not and told me that U-PACK would not care for my shipment like they would. Not true. U-PACK is just as good for less money. Will use them again!

  7. A total nightmare.

It seemed like it would be very easy, I scheduled my pod and the girl at Upack transferred me to their company moving partner, Moving Staffers. Unfortunately, the movers were scheduled incorrectly by the moving company, they came on completely the wrong day, after I gave them the correct date. This would be a recurring theme throughout this moving experience.

Once the day came for my Relocube to be dropped off, it was schedule for a window of 12 pm - 4 pm. It did not leave the previous customers house until after 6 pm, when it was then in a car accident. 2 hours later, the driver called me to tell me he was coming, and the new movers I had gotten to come last minute told me they could not wait any longer into the night, so I had to pay and reschedule everything for the next day (so moving out of my apartment on the next tenants lease).

Once the pod finally arrived the next day (also several hours late) the driver was nice and dropped the unit. He told me I needed 2 padlocks, instead of 1 like the moving instructions sent by UPack dictate. Otherwise, this process went fine.

Getting the pod dropped off was much worse than getting it. I was told by UPack that I would be able to provide the destination address at a later date (as when I moved, I had not found a new apartment yet). Unbeknownst to me, when I did provide the new destination address when I signed my lease, it triggers a mandatory waiting period as the Relocube was moved to a new facility to be loaded onto the truck. The girl who took my information entered the incorrect zip code, which sent my cube to the wrong destination center.

This led to me being passed to 8 different people between Upack and the various detonation centers. Every single person, while being nice and I know it is not their individual faults, would tell me there was simply nothing they could really do for me as the pod was always in transit, going somewhere else, and it could not be dropped off until the day after it arrives at whatever destination center it is going to (again, the incorrect one.) I probably spent about 6 hours on the phone total over the week attempting just to find out where the pod was, I was convinced on the weekend that it had been lost or destroyed. Seeing as you cannot get in contact with this company on weekends, my family and I saw my furniture as a lost cause.

UPack employees would tell me there was an expedited package I could upgrade to to get it faster, but that never seems to actually have been initiated. When I called the Upack number directly, the initial support people I spoke to were always rather aggressive in telling me there was simply nothing I could do but wait. When I would get to their managers, they were nice in telling me there was no option (as the pod had been sent to wrong place).

Every day the UPack people would tell me they would try to schedule it for drop off the next day, and every day I would take off another day of work and scramble to try and get a new group of movers. I eventually got my pod 1 week after initially calling to have it dropped off.

While my items were not damaged in the move, the amount of money that I lost taking off work and the monumental amount of stress this caused my family shows me that this company is not worth the effort, I will likely go with a more established moving company in the future. I do not think over 2500 dollars, lost wges from work, and hours on the phone was worth this experience in the slightest.

  8. Fantastic experience.

Simple to do-call for the container; you pack it up; call them to pick it up; they deliver the container and you pay them; you unpack it; call them to pick up the container when you're done. Simple! Price was slightly more than estimate- had MORE than we thought we'd have in the container. Truthfully I was expecting it to be a lot more. Staff very friendly & helpful. Cross-country move CA to WI.

  9. Move from La Crescenta, CA to Toronto, Canada.

Wow! The representative who booked my relocation cube was helpful, courteous and very professional. The guy who dropped off the cube provided the best recommendation for location to ensure it was level. We packed the cube and the same person picked it up on time. Taking the cube off and on the truck was flawless! They took care of paperwork at the border and delivered it to their facility in Ontario early! Due to Covid-19 I had to quarantine for 14 days and they kept my belongings safe and without charge during this time. When I called to pick up my belongings they pulled it out of storage within a short time and stayed with me while I opened it! I was extremely surprised that everything in the cube arrived safe and sound. There were several breakable items, TV, Computer monitors etc. and nothing broke. From start to finish this company is absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend this company for international moving. From California to Toronto, Canada - service just under $3,000. Paula HIldy, Ontario, Canada.

  10. U-Pack moving experience.

We used a relocube to move furniture from Iowa to CA. U-Pack was a fantastic company! Their website was very specific & accurate. They sent update text notifications so we felt like everyone knew what to expect & when. Everything was on time & they gave detailed instructions. Customer service was excellent & no long wait times. Price was very reasonable for amount of furniture we moved in 1 relocube. Cube arrived on time & no damage to furniture! We highly recommend U-Pack.

  11. Be wary, but can't beat the price.

It was hard to decide to give 3 or 4 stars for the review. I ultimately went with 4 stars because, at the end of the day, I'd recommend them and probably go with U-Pak again when I move next. HOWEVER, there were many mishaps, and so next time I move, and when I recommend their service I would STRONGLY advise keeping in constant communication to make sure your trailer/cube is moving along on time without any hiccups. Our trailer ended up being a full week late (which U-Pak reimbursed $350 for), and the company that dropped our trailer to fill parked in a difficult location which we had to reposition. Another reason I went with 4 stars instead of three though, was because everyone was pleasant and seemed genuinely eager to help get these things sorted out, plus they reimbursed us for it being late. You really can't beat the price, but just be wary.

  12. Bigger than you think.

To start our journey we called every major moving company near us, pods was overall the absolute most expensive, one was not available in our area and upack was both available in our area and the area we were moving to and it was the most cost effective. It was easy to order the “relo-cube” online, we picked our dates for drop off and they made sure to call a day before and the day of to ensure that was when we wanted it. Very friendly service. The cube at first look was small, but when we opened it and actually started to pack it, it was HUGE. We managed to fit all of our stuff inside, and had room to spare. We went online again, put in that we were ready for it to be picked up, they came the very next day, without problems. We had it delivered to our new address in Arkansas, and had it held in their unpack location for a few days, and they never added any additional fees To our bill. We unloaded it and called that night and they came first thing in the morning to pick it up.

Also both of the movers who dropped off the boxes wore masks and made us feel very safe. It was a wonderful experience, and I very much recommend this company!

  13. Very satisfied.

The whole process was simple and well organized. Special mention and appreciation about Robert from Kansas City who dropped and picked up the cubes. He was very patient, kind and helpful. We'll definitely use U-Pack again.

  14. Our move.

My husband and I recently moved from Bath, Me to

White Plains Md. and used UPack as our moving service.

We highly recommend this company. They made a frustrating time so much easier than we ever thought it would be. They delivered the trailer on time and picked it up on time.. What a blessing! Everyone we spoke to on the phone and in person when the trailer was delivered and picked up were friendly and informative. We thank all those who helped us. we definitely will use you again if we move.God Bless. Melanie Saindon.

  15. So frustrating and disappointing.

Our experience with U-Pack was extremely frustrating and disappointing. We called and scheduled an appointment, and the woman on the phone told me a price, took my credit card information, and confirmed that the trailer would be arriving on a Friday. A few weeks later, that day came and went with no drop-off. I called and was told that the woman I spoke to never actually placed the order. The second rep was very friendly and clearly trying to be quite helpful, but the price had now changed to $500 more for about half the space the original woman had quoted. Plus, we had to pay an additional $400 or so to get the drop-off date we had originally been promised. The truck was dropped off on a Monday, so instead of having a weekend to carefully pack, we had one day to rush through the job as quickly as we could. Also, they tell you that you can pay by the foot, but it is only possible to buy in two-foot increments. By the time we factored in the additional cost for a last-minute trailer, the rush shipping, and the additional space (again, which was mostly included in the first price, but not the second) this job cost about TWICE what was originally quoted. We paid to have the truck delivered on a Monday (with their “guaranteed deliver window”), but when we went to schedule the drop-off at our new house, we were told that even though the truck would be in our destination city Sunday night, drop-offs only occur between 4pm and 8pm, so it would be dropped off Monday evening, not morning. We had to reschedule moving help for Tuesday and are still confused why they insist on taking the entire day to drop off.

All in, this company cost double what I expected to pay, caused me a ton of stress and hassle on my moving weekend (turned not-moving-weekend), was slow to deliver my container, and the drivers didn’t even wear masks in two states with mask mandates. I could have—and should have!!—hired full-service movers. It would have been just a small amount more financially and much, much, much easier. If you do use them, triple check their work and then budget for surprises.
